My Biggest Complaint About Your Inefficient Voicemail

(Continuing with the new “inspired by” trend this one was inspired by Kapusta’s complaint about voicemail options)

You have 12 new messages… first message… ‘Hey, this is {dumbass friend name here}. Call me.’ second message… ‘What’s up, man. It’s {other dumbass friend name here}. Give me a call when you get a chance.’

Spam killed email for me and now you’re inefficient voicemail has wiped out voicemail for me. I don’t even use voicemail anymore. I don’t leave it and I don’t listen to it.

I just don’t have the time to listen to all of your messages telling me to give you a call. I have your number, I see you called. I’ll try to call you when I get a chance if we don’t talk before then.

Leaving me an inefficient voicemail telling me to call you wastes about 30 seconds of my time per call of yours. Besides wasting time, it just plain drives me nuts.

Leaving voicemail telling someone to call you with no additional message content is about as worthless as it gets. If you were fortunate enough to get my cell number, I’ve given you the green light to call me. If you call me, I have your number in my missed calls list. That’s good enough for me.

  1. I can kind of see your point, but one of *my* biggest complaints is when people call me back just because they saw my number on the missed calls list, and either 1)they haven’t even listened to the voicemail I left them which adequately details what I needed to tell them; or b) I *didn’t* leave them a message because it wasn’t important enough or was too timely a need to be taken care of later. I don’t think the missed calls list should ever be used in place of voice mail.

  2. There’s a fine line here. You should never return a call on your missed calls list that you don’t know. We’ve been through that before.

But if everybody would quit leaving voicemails that say “call me” this dude would be much more likely to listen to his voicemails that were from the unknown calls on his list

It’s phone spam, like he said. Just junking the box up and wasting time.

  3. Wait im sure there will soon be solicitaions on VM if you don’t subscribe to the no call list that is.

  4. Believe it or not, Apple’s hypePhone comes really close to solving your problems, tc3. Visual Voicemail lets you see a list of who left voicemails for you. You can see who left voicemails for you so you can pick and choose to listen to whatever ones you want based on the name or number of the person who left the voicemail.
