My Biggest Complaint About Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player 11 (Microsoft) when installed sets itself up as the default DVD player for the computer. I consider that to be a FRAUDULENT action since WMP does not have the capability to play a DVD.

If you already have DVD player software installed, WMP will leach off of its codecs pretending that it is providing you the service when it is not. And now it wants to tell you that it can’t play your standard DVDs (not talking HD or BlueRay) because you are using analog devices and you must upgrade to Digital (Read as MS proprietary DRM capable) devices.

But if I am a smart enough user I can reset my default DVD app back to where it should be (PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc…) and low and behold my analog devices work just fine for playing my standard DVD content. There are many users out there who do not know to use a real DVD app to play their DVDs, they fall for the MS BS message and either upgrade or do without.

This is a deceptive trade practice by Microsoft to trick you into purchasing new hardware that supports their proprietary DRM software.
