I’m a single black male and I’m sooooooooooooo tired of those commercials about weight loss! it’s always the same insane crap! it’s some white women bitching and moaning that they weigh more than 120 lbs!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!! most of them looked far better than they did before the weight loss. Unreal, it’s kinda comical how black and hispanic women don’t freak out like white american women do about their weight. It’s a cultural thing for sure. Most white american men pressure their girlfriends and wifes to be boney skinny skeletons and most white women fall for that crap!! (example) when a black girl starts to develop in junior high, hips, breast, buttock she shows off her womanly curves with pride, when a white girl starts to develop she tries to hide it by wearing loose fitting clothes and crazy diets that never work. It’s soooooooooo sad that most white men are so pathetic and judgmental towards women. Black and hispanic men mostly celebrate our curvey full figured women, not ridicule them. Real men love real women, not women that look like teenage boys. But until white women develop self esteem and stop worrying about brainwashed, ignorant mostly white males, white women will always suffer from eating disorders, mental illnesses ect…. ladies a size 4 is ok IF YOUR IN THE FIFTH GRADE!! LOL

Thank you for sharing such encouraging words. I am a white woman in my early 40’s who STILL suffers from an eating disorder (bulimia) because I feel fat at a size 14 & 5′5″ tall. I’m thankful that I have a small waist so I am curvy, but I am very insecure about my post-3-children tummy and less than cellulite-free thighs.
I have a GREAT boyfriend now who loves me as I am, but internally, those messages are still there. Of course it doesn’t help that everywhere we look, we women (and white men) are bombarded with messages on Tv & in on magazine covers that THIN IS IN!
Before finding my wonderful man, I had seriously thought about dating inter-racially for this exact reason! LOL! To feel accepted. It’s so nice that your culture accepts people for who they are and not what they look like. We should all learn from you. Thanks again. You made my day!

OMG you’re SO right! LOL! Hahaha! My ex-husband was a lot like that! Too funny! Except that he himself was a gym fanatic, so he wasn’t fat & bald. But he DID listen to Rush & Cheney, LOL.
That’s also what contributed to making ME feel so inadequate. He was sooo into fitness. If I mentioned that I felt imperfect, he would then offer up advice on how to GET RID OF that miniscule amount of fat I was obsessing about, instead of wrapping his arms around me and telling me it didn’t matter & that he loved me for ME. And he seldom told me I was pretty. Or that he loved me. Basically, he was an ASS! Lol.
My current BF touches me all the time & altho he also is not a very verbal man, he shows me in many other ways that he loves me. He doesn’t even notice if I’ve put on a few pounds. And what I REALLY love about him is that in the stores, he walks right by the girly magazines & heads straight for the hunting ones, hahaha. So I feel very safe with him, that another woman, no matter how beautiful, will be enough to lure him away from me because that’s not what he cares about. Sounds like you are that way too which is awesome. So many of us women need guys like you two. Your girlfriend & I are really lucky.

You know what’s funny is that I never used to know that much about politics, & I sorta depended on my husband for information (sounds VERY old fashioned doesn’t it?! That’s bc I also used to be a fundamentalist Christian!). So I used to vote Republican, watch the O’Reilly Factor with him (just to be with him really), and I felt like I was totally in the “right.” Smug, arrogant asshole I was.
But once I started reading up on my own, I found I disagreed with much of the Republican party’s stand on many issues, and I also became very concerned with eating & using organic products for health reasons, not even knowing that was a liberal issue, & so my ex started calling me a “tree-hugger.” It was at this same time that I began questioning much of my religion’s beliefs, as they are often very tied in with the Republican party, & so I started on a journey from which I have never returned. LOL.
I came to realize how full of bigotry both of those things are. And how much nicer people on the other side really are.

But I tell ya, I learned a LOT when I went from being a financially comfortable, married white woman to a divorced, struggling single mother. Republicans wanted to CUT funding for food stamps & other assistance I now desperately needed. And CHRISTIANS as you said, are their main supporters. CHRISTIANS assume many of those who are needy are druggies and uneducated ppl who “need Jesus.” Well, I tell ya, Jesus FORSOOK one of his own over here! And I also did not need to be looked down upon becaused I got divorced either. I found the non-Christians to be a much more compassionate bunch.

I agree with much of what you said. I won’t get into looking in the bible, because through a lot of research I’ve been doing, I have come to believe that even that is false. Many of the texts we currently read are so far from the original, which were written in Greek & Hebrew, & copied & recopied, & RErecopied & so on, by people who not very literate back then. In short, we don’t even HAVE the original texts to begin with, & the ones we DO have are chock FULL of errors, add-ins that were not originally there, discrepancies, & omissions. The original meanings are lost, so even if we believed it was the Word of God, we don’t even HAVE it! Oops, I said I wouldn’t go there, didn’t I…lol. Here I am on my soap box again!
As you can see, my faith used to be very important to me. So much so that I dug for ANSWERS. Sadly, what I found was profoundly disappointing. It made me LOSE my faith when I found the truth of things. I don’t mean to shake YOUR faith, knight. But back to your point, just because someone claims to serve God doesn’t mean they are GOOD, & the opposite is true too…someone doesn’t have to serve God to be good either. In fact, I’m a much nicer person now that I’m doing it for the sake of being nice and not just to try to “win souls.” I’m more genuine & I think ppl can sense that.
I also don’t see non-Christians judging other ppl as harshly or as often as I saw Christians do. It’s so nice to be free of that!

Going back to the original point, I perfectly understand your point about the pressure put on white women to be thin, but there is some thing you are missing and it is the pressure put on non-white women to be curvy. Pressure is pressure, no matter what it aims. As a skinny woman, it is as hurtful for me to hear that “a size 4 is ok IF YOUR IN THE FIFTH GRADE!!” as it is for a bigger woman to hear that she needs to loose weight, but as curvy is the cultural norm in our countries (I live in Dominican Republic) we feel it is acceptable to insult skinny or curveless women. We are no better than those “white males” and we do not realize that.
I am 5′6 and 124 lbs. I am 32B, size 3 on my upper body and 7 in jeans. I have never been told by a doctor that i’m underweight and although I recieve some compliments from other people, I constantly hear how skinny I am and that I am a bag of bones. Where i used to work, there were those who sat besides me at lunch just to see how I eat, they also would also make remarks about my body and about me not having enough of this or enough of that.
All of us are built different and any set standards are unrealistic.

I’m personally not very attracted to VERY skinny women but that’s my taste. (EXAMPLE) 5′5” and 10l0 lbs. that’s really skinny to me. I don’t insult women about their appearance, big, small, short, tall ect ect. I always look closer for character over appearance. But heres my opinion whatever GOD made anyone to be be I’m happy for them. Betta theres nothing wrong with someone having personal preferences but when a mate or potential mate pressures you to be something your not maybe that mate should go find what their looking for somewhere else. For the women that are reading this the image of Twiggy you white girls are trying to emulate, read up on her opinion about size and weight. To sum her up she says it all crazy. The picture you women have in your mind as the ideal was taken when she was 16. She said it herself, she has a website. Watch the movie club paradise, the leading blonde lady that became Robin Williams love interest in the movie is Twiggy, looks pretty good. Next, the model industry took you all for suckers they fed this “gotta be skinny” garbage to you women to further their profits and it is the same in all other media format. And girls (women) stop beating up on each other with the insults and the whispers (I can believe she’s wearing that) and the like. I know you women are in competition with each other to get a man. Here’s a great news flash on what some men look for in a woman, honesty, attention, companionship, down to earth, with some domestic skills including the kitchen and bedroom, that doesn’t complain to much or whine (am I fat?). And ladies we know you’re going to add a few pounds, so what? So are we, and we are the same as you, going to get older and not look so good. My ol lady is 5′ 4″ and 240 pounds, apple shaped, and is at her midlife, and is good enough for me. But, she still has the Twiggy brainwashing, shameful. I tell her stop worrying about it. Don’t lie about it, eat and be happy, it won’t matter when she is in the ground and nobody will remember her size or weight.

Thanks for starting this conversation. Indeed if a woman is naturally thin, that is fine. But let’s face it, most of these skinny women have to work super hard to be unrealistically skinny, and one does wonder why a man would want a bag of bones instead of a healthy, fertile woman?
No one needs to be too fat or too thin (both come with health problems), and I’ll never understand why White society has decided that too thin is more attractive than healthy. As stated by the original poster, the men in question are not physically amazing themselves to even be making such demands on a woman.
