Okay, I work retail so I will be the first person to understand that as a retailer, you can’t always provide quick and speedy checkout BUT. . . why is it that Walmart has over 30 checkout lanes but during peak periods they only have 5 freakn lanes open? If they only had 5 lanes then I would be okay with it. All those unlit lane signs seem to mock me when I am standing behind 10 people in line and it seems to me that for a giant money maker should be able to figure out how to properly staff their stores during high demand times!

Well this one is simple When Sam Walton was alive and in charge of the operation he bent over backwards to provide great customer survice. Since the demise of Sam Walton customer service has suffered dramatically at wall mart stores all over. So staying to true to Waltons vision they build the stores with the capability of good customer service however they skimp when they can.

…it’s Walmart. Lower your expectations.
You are supposed to get frustrated enough to learn to use the self service checkout. That way in a few years they can only have one “real” checkout open and increase the bottom line as you become an unpaid WalMart employee.

that so true but even then have you ever noticed enevitabley at the self check station it is loaded with techno lunkheads with 62 shopping carts packed full of items.
Want customer service got to the stores where you pay for it.

The money they wasted on installing all thoses extra lanes would pay for 4 or 5 employees’ salaries for 3 years!!!!
I HATE Wal-Mart, I pay more to avoid going there.

Ok the worst is the check out line at the Walmart pharmacy in Saraland it is most always 10 people deep or more with only one cashier even though there are two check out stands. My prescription never takes more than a couple minutes but I am forced to stand there and while the cashiers run back and forth searching through bags for a long time. and I hate it when people start asking the drug cashiers to check out groceries too - this is not the place for that. Worse someone standing next to me conversing on the phone and i have to listen to someone yammer on and on and on. Shut up already.

i agree.you are shopping and get up to the check out and there are a ton of people in the line. and some of the checkers arent the swiftest either, even tho i suppose if they had baggers it would hurry things along.

if u wait for more than 10 minutes in a line at a wal mart call 411 and ask for that store’s number. After you get the number call the store and if it is between 8am-5pm ask for the store manager and ask [or order] them to come up to the lane u r n and demand by u r waiting n line for so long. If it is in the evening ask for an assistant manager and demand an explaination…. Keep pressuring them until they say they r understaffed…state that is not your problem and u want more lanes open at whatever time u are there n that u will start complaining about long lines every time u come in whether they r long or not.
