My Biggest Complaint About Vacations

My biggest complaint about vacations is that they come to an end. I go off and have a great time, then I come back to work and it all seems for naught. The work has piled up and I’m playing catchup. Everybody asks me how my vacation was and I tell them, “It was great until 7am this morning when I had to come back to work.” Meanwhile more work is piling up.

I want to be European. They seems like they are always on vacation. I swear if they are not taking “holiday” (which is the European term for vacation: of which they get what seems like 3 months of holiday per year), they are off because some saint has a birthday. There are hundreds of saints and it seems like they recognize each one’s birthday. I bet their work doesn’t even pile up over there, either. They are on vacation so much that that probably dread it going back on holiday when it comes around…… “Oh dang, holiday again. I miss work when I’m on holiday….”

  1. Plus in Europe they’re all like “I’m driving two hours east and going to another country, where I’ll be staying in a 900-year-old castle and going to a wine and cheese festival.” Sheesh. If I drive two hours east I’m stil in the same state, staying at a Motel 6, and drinking thick-even-when-warm Mickey-D’s shakes. They’re definitely spoiled over there.

  2. Yes, things would run much better if we took “holiday” like the euros do. We should do a lot of things those masters of industry the euros do.

Nothing goes with massive unemployment rates quite like a nice long “holiday”. Except maybe sub-standard socialized medicine and/or 51% tax rates. Oh, and those cute little transportation worker strikes that grind entire countries to a halt over government funded pension plans are cool, too.

I encourage long “holidays” here. The only thing is I do not provide direct deposit of paychecks and I won’t release paychecks to anyone besides the employee… security reasons, I’m sure everyone understands.

So take your holiday. But if you want your check, you better be here to get it. Since instituting this policy, amazingly enough virtually across the board vacations are now taken in week or less blocks.

I bet the euros have direct deposit.

  3. Bossman havent you heard the check is on the way out! Most resteraunts won’t even take checks at all now days. I don’t know what business your in but at places I have worked in the past payday comes they can’t even give checks till the end of the day because if they give em out before noon the employees don’t even show back up for work.

government funded pension plans? what pretell is Social Security. Yeah yeah I know it was supposed to be a bonus a supplement to the average retirement! But if this is true why then must SS punish those who work after retirement age by docking the SS or those who select to use private retirements plans. Oh yeah only the government workers are allowed to do that! Yeah Government funded pension plans how wonderfull a world we live in.

Who now should get those long holidays? hmm I for one know I work at least 80 hrs per week. I go on holidays and my laptop, cell phone follow not far behind. The customer doesnt pay you still get your paycheck but I don’t.

Perhaps we can give those long holidays and send a laptop and cell phone with you so you can keep things going? What you say homework? No way.

  4. I love vacation.

  5. I’m looking forward to a great vacation resort somewhere in the Caribbean and i was referred to charlisangels in the Caribbean, have anyone on here been there?
