My Biggest Complaint About Uses Of The Word “Literally”

I hate how people use the word “literally” when they in fact mean just the opposite - figuratively.

“Your dad is literally going to blow up when he sees what you did to the car.”

“He literally opened his heart up to me.”

“You have got to get over here. It’s literally raining men.”

  1. That is so true, and yes, annoying. Even (?) the media misuses the word. It drives me up the wall. It’s the same as

    “almost exactly”.

Well no. It is by definition, exactly or not exactly. You can’t be a little bit dead.
