  • Software That Errors Out In Windows

I don’t get it, what have I done to deserve this? Both of my children received a computer game for Christmas that will not work on my PC.
I have upgraded the video card, I have talked to support, nothing. I get a fatal error when you run the program.
One vendor just says, we […]

  • Standard vs Daylight Time

There is a difference between EST and EDT. Many, if not most, people think that “standard” time is the time it is where you are. Or that it is the standard time for the time zone.
Right now, September 4, 2007, the “normal” time in New York is EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) not EST (Eastern […]

  • Fireworks

Fireworks going on at all hours…what is the big deal?
Why do we put up with them in our neighborhoods?

  • Chicago’s Olympic Bid

Who the the world wants to add to the problems we already have in the Chicago area by adding the Olympics?
A waste of time and money…and will not have a positive effect on me…or my family.

    • What was misled during the opening ceremonies? I'm missing something...

    • This is a good thing, they are taking out things we don't need, using less WATER in the mix, and using less plastic too. you are paying for loads of wash, if it is the size of a tanker truck, washes the same number of loads and costs the same, are you actually getting more? Yes, more stuff, but not more washing. It is a game with you people, example is that you really don't want to buy gasoline, you want to buy miles to drive. This is similar, you want to buy loads of wash, not gallons of soap. So, you don't want to be *greener*, buy something else.

    • Unintended consequences. Making more and more fuel from food crops reduces the amount of food crops available for cattle. The price of grain has gone way up. Milk is part of that equation. So, we want to reduce oil consumption, but increase the price of food. Nothing in the Ethanol guidebook says ethanol is CHEAPER or will save us money, just reducing oil dependence.

    • Must be single

    • How about because the remote currently does not have a RECEIVER, whereas the phone does?

    • I have to agree with the spam comment. But I disagree with the watch comment, most people I know wear a watch. I'm lost without it. A neighbor had a cool looking watch, he bought it in China, he lost his while traveling to China, it was a "New Swiss Army". Fake...looked cool, but the extra dials were glued on, just for show, no function. So, yes, I hate the spam, but gotta have a watch. I of course do not buy from the spammers. I actually like Fossil and the Timex Indiglo models.

    • My older daughter is in an advanced reading program, and program at the library where she has to read ~30 age appropriate books. My children read plenty. Occasionally they like to play some games. I would like games to actually work when installed. And if not, support to give a damn. I'm not getting the XBox because we don't need a dedicated game machine...we have Coleco and Atari from the 80's when we want that.

    • Here in Chicagoland, WhiteHen was bought by 7-11,so they are in process of changing over. I have not seen the magazine rack move to the checkout counter. Actually my W/H - 7-11 does not carry anything more racy than Hooters Magazine. Ours has CANDY galore at the checkout. I find that annoying because you want to figure out what you want...something look good today...but you cannot because someone is checking out. Otherwise you are staring at their behind trying to find your candy bar.

    • When you pay for service, you should get the service. If you are not getting the service you paid for, you have the right to complain. BTW it is *their* not *there*

    • Every G rated Disney cartoon has death or divorce...Bambi to Toy Story...

    • And nobody reads the signs either! ;-)

    • You are right! I don't get why when two people come to a point where they have to go around one another, most people I run into go to the LEFT...is that what they do when the drive...move into oncoming traffic? Move to the right!

    • Nike is recalling chinstraps: http://snipurl.com/1tnhm Interesting...?

    • As my daughter told me last night, it is Stop, drop, cover your face, and roll. I don't really look at those messages, they don't seem to work here, because we have put messages in that say things like, "make sure your address is correct so we issue the correct W-2" Very few changes, but several errors...so those that actually look probably updated their address when they moved anyway. Those that don't look wonder why their employer needs their address anyway.

    • My point really was that there are options, maybe not all the options we need right now, but there are options.

    • At McDonalds, Happy Meals get a choice of Fries or Apple Dippers, and a choice of drink (milk, juice, or fountain)

    • Looks like you got your wish. Primary ABC channels appear to have Ohio State and Purdue (both undefeated) on rather than the previously scheduled Notre Dame at UCLA game. If you have HD, you can get it on the alternate ABC. According to the TVGuide online programming guide

    • Correct Mr. Squeaky. I am unaware of any contracts with other networks other than NBC. NBC's show is "Notre Dame Football on NBC" or something. When they are on ABC, it is just "College Football" Back in 1985, prior to the NBC contract, ABC or CBS did just that, they left and "uncompetitive" game against Penn State (I clearly remember Jim Nantz saying that) to go to another game. I still think the networks get ratings. It will be interesting to see if ABC sticks with the ND at UCLA game or not, or if it gets moved to ESPN. I may be wrong, but I think the home team (for regular season games) contracts the TV. In a few years ND will have some "away Home games". Those are games they are going to hold in a neutral site as a home game, closer to other alumni/fan bases, like LA or Florida but they will be home games for ND ticketwise and TVwise. I don't really watch the NFL, but don't you always get your local team every week, (I understand the home game not sold out black out rule) regardless of the quality of the game? I cannot imagine that the Bears won't be on TV or they will cut away to other games. They gave up a record 34 points in the 4th quarter yesterday.

    • Disclaimer: I am a Notre Dame graduate. First, the NBC contract is for home games only. There is nothing in that contract that gets Notre Dame on TV for away games. Second, of the first 5 games this season, 3 were away. The Purdue game on Saturday was in West Lafayette. I was actually surprised it was on Saturday. I expected to have to watch it on the Big Ten Network (since Purdue is a Big 10 team). This coming Saturday is at UCLA, again, on ABC, nothing to do with the NBC contract you are complaining about. The contract is good for the school, it pumps in millions into the academic programs. The exposure on national TV each home game helps recruiting in good years, it keeps contributing alumni in touch. Yes, there are people who think it is not fair for ND to have the NBC deal. But look at the landscape, the BTN was having trouble just getting cable companies to put it on their system because the companies could not justify it.

    • Who cares. Let this go on without my participation. I have zero interest in what happens to OJ.

    • It's all about TV on the West Coast. As an ND Alum I would like them earlier as well.

    • I got the joke... Printing the tickets with EST was not incorrect. Indiana at that time did not observe DST so they were always on EST. I'm sure the confusion was part of the reason Indiana now observes DST. While I wish they had chosen CT over ET, it is at least consistent.

    • Three reasons I don't shop at Whole Foods. 1. High prices (I understand high quality, but there is a happy medium at a lower price) 2. I can't find anything ( The layout seems odd to me, but maybe I am freaked out by #3) 3. Facial Piercings

    • Granted, it was a bigger problem in areas surrounding Indiana when they did not change with DST every summer. In Indianapolis it was EST all year long. Now it is EDT in the summer, and EST in the winter. Problem is that if you had tickets to say the Indy 500 they said race starts at 11:00 AM EST. People on the East coast think that means 11 am NYC time, when it is really 12 noon NYC time...again, they would not be late, they would be early. I'm not sure how saying 4pm ET would ever be thought of as Extra Terrestrial. But then again, I'm usually saying CT...

    • I like the "bar" Just like I am glad they don't "hide" the scoreboard when I am at the game. It is always there so I can know the score when I turn on the broadcast, or if I forget. I'm stupid. And the time remaining, that is good to know just like I like to see it when I am at the game in person.

    • Not all hosts allow for IMAP. I use POP, but set my client to keep mail on the server for at least 30 days. Ok?

    • Ok, again, Mr. EXACTWORDS...I have attended many fireworks displays in my years on this earth...I cannot recall ever paying an admission charge to view them. That is the free part I was referring to. My county has 4th of July fireworks at the fairgrounds. No admission fee. You are correct, someone had to pay for them, the county (taxes) or another organization; honestly, I don't know who pays for them by me. What I meant was that you did not have to go out to the store and plunk down your cash to get fireworks. It might be your money buying the county fireworks...so why not go enjoy your money being blown up? I see, I should only deserve respect if I am known, and have earned it. I find that statement odd. I respect the rights of a large number of people I have never ever met. I respect the privacy of those conducting transactions at the pharmacy by not standing too close, I don't ask them to earn my respect first. If I am blocking the aisle, not realizing it, and someone asks me to move, maybe agitated at my blocking position, I don't pull out my gun and shoot them. I comply, it is easy to do, I get out of the way, and look for a way to stay clear for others. I don't say, sorry, I don't respect you, figure out your own way around. I guess that is what you do. I'm sorry that I don't know everyone in my neighborhood. I certainly could meet them, you can only create relationships with a few. And even then, just because I meet them, say hello, wave when I drive by, they will respect my rights or listen to me when I ask them to keep it down? Maybe we live in the same neighborhood, I hope not. You must be the same person who does not care how late he keeps his music playing for the neighborhood, regardless of the city ordinances. I guess you have proven my point, I will have to call the police to deal with loud neighbors. Maybe when they get fined for violations they will begin to respect the laws...or do the laws have to earn their respect too? How do you handle a complaint with that one neighbor who you have not yet met? Do you know everyone within 10 houses of you in all directions? Maybe 10 is alot, how about 5? So if I am not as extroverted as you are, am I not worthy of respect? Have fun with your fireworks, try not to break any laws. If you do, I hope you get fined the maximum penalty. Keep us updated.

    • Right...I know...I was kidding...a red light is a red light... ;-) I guess I would respect the walkers right to a safe intersection over my wait time...

    • I am happy I live where gunfire is less prevalent than in others...of course you don't mean that we don't have violence committed by people using guns do you? I didn't think so. I am free to ask them, and they are free to tell me to go to hell, and torment me further if I were to call the police to have them obey the noise ordinances. My complaint here is that people who fire off their own fireworks, not professional 4th of July displays, tend to be inconsiderate and don't really care what people who don't like fireworks, or obey the law regarding fireworks think. I thank God that I live in a country where I am mostly free, and mostly safe. But I still live in a country that has many citizens who feel that whatever they want is what everyone wants...or more closely, what ever they want is what they want, and who cares what anyone else wants, they are wrong... When I have asked people, in a calm voice to please stop doing something that is offensive, like stop firing fireworks at 1am, they decline telling me to make them...so where do you go from there...police? If you go too far then they vandalize you house...or beat up your kids, or whatever else they think is an appropriate response...because they are FREE to do what they want... I'm sorry, I find personal fireworks to be unnecessary. My county has a very large fireworks display every 4th of July...go see it. A nearby city has fireworks twice a week all summer long...so see them...it's FREE...and you are FREE to go...and it is legal...

    • I'm sorry...our founding fathers were not looking for freedom to launch fireworks at 1am. Unfortunately, the people that believe that fireworks are good, don't usually give a rat's a&& what I think, or that I should be able to sleep... People like this tend to be revengeful and not take kindly to asking them to be respectful...they bought the fireworks, they are going to shoot them off, ordinances against them or not...so if they don't respect the laws of the land, why would they respect me? So we will have to disagree on this point...

    • Since there are no cars, why don't you just drive right thru the red light? as the walker, I would rather ensure that there is enough time to cross than worry about your 20 wait in your car, sitting, waiting...

    • I would tend to agree that you should use your signal...too many people are unaware of merging traffic...speeding up to keep you out...whatever...signals would be a good addition

    • What part of "up to 4" don't I understand? 2 is clearly in the range of up to 4 If you got 12 bottles from two breweries...you got what is described... Or am I wrong?

    • Educate me...so my suit should not have a liner...I should wear underwear under my suit? I guess I prefer having the liner...
