My Biggest Complaint About USC Being Ranked #1 In Preseason Polls

Here we go again. USC ranked number 1 in virtually every preseason college football poll for the umpteenth year in a row.

My biggest complaint about it? The PAC-10.

The PAC 10 should not even be a conference included in the BCS. Some high schools in Texas could beat half the teams in the PAC-10. Besides the horrible caliber of play for most teams in the PAC-10 (granted, aside from USC), the PAC-10 has no championship game.

The PAC-10 teams just go at it all year long and then it ends. No championship game like the SEC or ACC and the other respectable conferences. Those teams have to suffer through their regular conference schedules and should they run the table and possibly be looking at a shot at the national championship by regular season’s end, the teams still have to go head to with the “other” best team in their conference.

Not USC. They just have to survive the PAC-10 regular season which is like trying to survive 9 homecoming games. The only way USC can screw it up is by becoming bored to death with their season.

I don’t think they should rank college teams in preseason. Ranking college teams in preseason polls does nothing but lock the top team into the spot if that team should get on a roll. Guess what? Other teams get a roll and they shouldn’t be penalized because of some preseason poll.

Look at the NFL. The preseason is a joke. NFL teams have to play for their spots in their respective divisions. Everybody goes in with a clean record and nothing is decided until later in the season.

College football should not rank teams until the 3rd or 4th week of the season at least. That would allow us to see the goods before we cast our votes.

College coaches often say preseason polls don’t mean anything, but they do. Especially if you’re USC and you’re staring at 9 games you can phone in.

  1. The news media is so biased in favor of USC, causing people to hate USC. They are rated every year at the top and have won the BCS one time. Fans are not dumb, we know who the deserving teams are. We know why l;the media does this. Disney owns ESPN. It’s in their favor to push California teams, etc. Will a boycott be necessary to correct this mess ?
