My Biggest Complaint About The Office Starbucks Run

I’m on break, bored, and a colleague asks if I’m running to Starbucks. Mind you she didn’t ask me to go to Starbucks, but asked if I had decided for myself to go there. I had not. But the seed was planted and sure enough it grew into a fully adult idea. I wanted something from Starbucks. I made $10 tip, so I might as well spend it.

I whispered to my colleague, “I am going to Starbucks, if you want something tell me. I’m not asking ANYONE else, because I don’t feel like making a big trip out of this.”

I went to Starbucks, got our orders and returned. Sure enough, upon my return, everyone that I encounter asks me “Why didn’t you ask me if I wanted something from Starbucks?”

Suddenly I’m the bad guy. I tell them outright, “I didn’t ask anyone else because I didn’t feel like lugging 18 Starbucks drinks back to the office. I have two hands. Get your own coffee.” I believe, in total, I had to explain this to 5 people. 5 people, plus me, plus the initial colleague makes 7.

Starbucks offers you a cardboard tray to accommodate 4 beverages. On top of that, I was treating my colleague within the bounds of my $10 tip. I was not paying for 4 people, let alone 7 people. So for me to get drinks for 7 people means that I need to bring back a receipt and figure out who owes what. All of these things are delaying the consumption of a Mocha Frappuccino which I’m already embarrassed about due to my past hatred of all things Starbucks and “Metrosexual” (a term you can ask me to comment on at a later time).

I suppose what I discovered from all of this is that Starbucks is something we crave when we see it or hear about it. We all apparently want it, but only a few of us are actually willing to go out and get it. So how good can it really be? And why can’t people understand that they will not always be asked what they want? Nobody cares what you want. If you want it, go and get it. Don’t ask someone else to get it for you, even if they’re already going there. I may be making the journey but I’m already carrying my own load, so do not burden me with your load as well.

  1. Starbucks ain’t beer.

If I’m on a beer run, everybody’s drinking what I’m buying and the beer is sold in large easy to carry quanties like 24 beers and 24 beers. No such thing at Starbucks. They got that big ass coffee holder pseudo big gulp thing, but that’s no good because nobody drinks the same thing from Starbucks anyway.

I would never get anybody anything from Starbucks except a black cup of coffee. Tall, short, grande, venti whatever the hell… large medium and small. Besides not being able to carry more than 4 cups like you mentioned, most Starbucks orders are just too complicated to remember.
