Please tell me this is a joke and something that will be tweaked / totally revamped before . . . well, before whenever this thing is eventually released considering no date is certain and no pundit knows what the hell they’re talking about it.
Years of development behind what will likely be the pinnacle of operating systems and they give me a high resolution picture of wet grass. I could go see this in my yard if I had one. OK, so I would also have to get up early enough when the grass was still wet, but you get the point. Is this the best they could come up with? Sure, it’s a really nice picture of wet grass . . . but it’s still wet grass.
What were the other choices? Brown dirt? Pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, green clovers?

I don’t understand why you are freaking out over a picture of wet grass. Honestly it probably symbolysis something and will probably be a huge hit. Honestly what’s wrong with people today, all they do is whine about anything electronic or software related junk. Go read a book or get outside for once, maybe that’s a hint for you?

10.5 BETA isn’t about some wet grass you noob and what about the vista wallpapers huh!

I don’t believe this was a one of the new features that Steve spoke about at WWDC
Steve Clifford on June 25th, 2007 at 5:58 am | Link
from what i’ve heard, Steve Jobs took the photo and wanted it on there. Blame him not the OS dev team.

I agree with you! What happened to the traditional blue with light blue shapes that has been traditional for all previous OS 10.X releases?

I like it - it’s fresh

What are you people whining about, the background is pretty neat, and the blue wavy forms will probably come too, so people CHILL!!

Who cares? It’s not as if anyone actually stays with the default wallpaper for long. And its better then that horrific default Tiger wallpaper.
I think its quite nice, to be honest.
Ripdog on July 5th, 2007 at 11:53 pm | Link
I think the the wallpaper show life, and green roots

Like Steve said, “We’re not having a traditional blue background this time, because nobody keeps it. People want to put their own digital photos as their desktop background.”
If you don’t like, remove it. Simple as that. But, please, stop making a big deal out of it. Geez..

I keep the Aqua desktop on Tiger (and have even made some similar backgrounds myself). That shade of green on the grass looks sickly green, especially behind the transparent menubar. And it’s worse, because Vista used grass as a background on Longhorn/Windows Vista (and that was a nicer picture, too, imo).
I hope we also get a nice new aqua background choice in Leopard, because that is the whole theme of OS X.

Hmm, I guess Mac users are used to more stale backgrounds whereas us Windows users have gotten used to more scenic backgrounds. Come on, it’s just a background, I mean they could have put in a better background like the ones seen in XP or Vista by default but it’s not that bad.
Come on, it’s just a background, it’s time Apple refresh those stale backgrounds it has been using since forever. They’re also refreshing the UI, wait a minute, that UI is a bit reminiscent of something but I can’t quite put my finger on it…maybe Vista? Nah, Apple never copies, only Microsoft does that and gets blasted for it. Transparent taskbars and scenic desktops, hmm…I’ve seen that before, but where? Not really sure. But if Apple were to copy features, they’d still be loved, but they’d never do that.

It’s a simple matter of going into the System Preferences and clicking on ‘Desktop & Screensavers’ and changing it to whatever image floats your boat. I don’t understand what the big complaint is. I don’t think that a true Mac fan would take the time to complain about a desktop background on the most anticipated OS release to date. You are probably in love with Vista, aren’t you?

what? why is it that someone can’t complain about osx without a comparison to vista? who mentioned vista in that post? if you’re truly satisfied with your s*it and are confident that you are the best, then you won’t feel the need to compare yourself to someone/thing else. but if you are going to compare the two, they do have something in common: neither of them kept their promise about being home by dinner time.

Why do you care about the default desktop anyway when you can change it? people shouldn’t complain about the stupidest things, unless you know nothing about computers! Did you buy a mac just for that? The old ugly blue backgrounds will be not included (as of yet),but here’s how to get it: 1. When you actually update your computer (or probably buy a new one), back-up the file on a CD or something. 2. After installing Leopard, put the CD in your computer, drag it to the desktop. 3. Click on system preferences, then choose “dektop and screensavers”. 4. Select “choose file”, and in the desktop click on the picture. But you probably already knew all that.
Personnaly, I don’t hate the Aqua Blue Desktop, but I prefer to put a picture of grass that I made!

THE GREEN…… GRASS what a jocke ?? - more than 20 years supporting the mac but as today look like they need to cleanup their act and GIVE BACK to the MAC COMMUNITY something GOOD, the NEW Leoaprd HUMMMMM, like iLife 8 ( A Majeur disaster full of bug) NOTHING NEW at all, deja vu, May be Steve Job after making all his money SHOULD take a very long vacation? and something TRULY NEW , and FRIENDLY will appear.

I like the wet grass. It’s a cool new look for OS X. I don’t get the big deal over what Steve Jobs chooses his background for. It’s way better than anything Vista comes with. I’ll even put the grass on my iPhone!

Helloimamac, you might have won. The newest video on the Apple site that demos OS X Leopard does not have wet grass as the default background. It’s some starry cosmos looking thing.
The demo mentions other various backgrounds you might pick but does not show the wet grass background during the movie. I guess we will have to wait a little longer, but you might have pulled it off and got the wet grass thrown out.
Yes, tc3, I have been heard by Apple and granted my wish. Consider this complaint resolved. Apple has abandoned the wet grass and replaced it with something much more akin to a Vista ripoff as I had anticipated.
I’m a happy camper.
I agree!

Your the biggest wimp, if you don’t like the background, you can change it. Vista has a background like it don’t really matter.
Matt on December 22nd, 2007 at 5:43 pm | Link
I honestly think he can whine about it! It is someone’s job to create these photos and they are so un-creative that all they could think of was grass. Seriously. Why hire them? I could think of grass. It’s grass. I mean people walk on it. So maybe it’s “fresh”. Would not look so fresh if it was not high contrast/resolution, eh?
Amanda on December 27th, 2007 at 12:16 am | Link
Why are you so ungreatful and complaining over something so little that is actually quite beautiful. I would love to see get a shot like that. You should start appreciating what you have instead of being so critical… God bless.

***** symbolysis****** retyping that sickened me.
Go read a book? For example go read a dictionary, the word your looking for is symbolic. you know, “this wet grass represents some sort of symbolism.” SYMBOLISM. When you fail at typing your comas and periods and capitalization mean nothing.

Who gives a crap about MACs anyway?
And why does it take 20 minutes to post a simple text blog in here sometimes ?
You MAC people are pathetic … You probably voted for McCain.
wow, that sucks that your biggest complaint is about something you have total control over, so basically you are now the biggest LOSER!

They made this a default, because its suppose to symbolize going green. Which they are trying to do now, by making the systems out of glass and aluminum.

Idiot… Apple has gone green.. they are being environmental friendly.. Does that ring a bell? or maybe they have it so it looks fresh.. OMG I cant believe people still take wallpapers that seriously..
