Criminals on TV used to be stupid incompetent thugs and now they are practically geniuses.
Watch any of the modern TV crime dramas and you’ll see the same thing over and over. Take a show like NUMB3RS or Life, the Bionic Woman, or really any of them, and what you get is the new stereotypical criminal that is smart, cunning, a master of all fields - medicine, technology, nuclear weapons, with an ability to accomplish intricate plans at the drop of a hat. TV now has super-hero criminals that in a single episode can accomplish what would have taken a dozen A-Teams and a handful of McGyvers over a year to accomplish just 20 years ago.
The problem with violence and crime on TV is not only that our children are watching violence and crime, but that they are getting the message that criminals are basically Nobel Laureates that got off track. Really, with the talent set attributed to most of TV’s new super-hero criminals, do we really think that somebody that possessed those talents would become a criminal (at anywhere the rate they do on TV)?

Actually not saying its right or wrong but many criminals are very very intelligent individuals. Talking with a prison guard trainer one time he said not to underestimate the inmates many are very smart they even have Mensa members incarcerated.
So yes these types do get off track and talking with the guard trainers again when asked why many just are bored or want the challenge.
Go Figure.

in this present day and age you practically have to be a genius to be a successful criminal.
but ya, when you’re smart and life bores you, you do look for a challenge.
hell i know a guy who now has millions in the bank who in the 1980’s used to build fast cars and run from the cops for kicks.
and these cross country illegal road races?
all these individuals are VERY rich and intelligent.
hell Will Wright, yes that Will Wright, as in the Sims Will Wright, won the 1980 US Express (the actual continuation of the Cannonball Run).
