My Biggest Complaint About The Asymmetry Of USB Plugs

I HATE when I go to plug in a USB device and it appears not to fit so I make the understandable assumption that its in the wrong way. Upon flipping the plug and trying again I am then met with the same opposition. So I then look at the USB and look at the USB hole and find that I was right the bloody first time. A simple task with all the confusion can take upwards of 10 seconds.

  1. Agreed, this will just flat out drive you nuts sometimes.

You see the USB symbol that’s supposed to mean “this side up” but you just don’t trust it and you don’t want to break something. So, you flip. And fumble. And flip back.

Apple really tries to muck you up by putting the Apple logo on the bottom of the USB plug. Your eye catches that flashy logo and you can’t resist thinking “this side up”. After all, who puts logos on the bottom of things?

I speak from experience when I say your frustration with yourself grows exponentially each time you fall for the slick trick.
