My Biggest Complaint About Tee Ball For 5 And 6 Year Olds

My daughter plays in a league for 5 and 6 year olds. The league has games scheduled twice a week, once on Saturday and once on a weeknight.

My biggest complaint about tee ball for 5 and 6 year olds is that sometimes the weeknight games are scheduled as late as 6:45 PM.

There is absolutely no reason to have tee ball games scheduled for 6:45 PM for 5 and 6 year olds who are already tired at that point in the day. You can’t coach them when they’re that tired and they don’t have very much fun. On a good day during a Saturday morning game, half the team asks “When is it going to be over?” after the second inning. When 5 and 6 year old kids are playing tee ball at 7:45 PM, most of them can hardly hold their eyes open.

The games usually only last about an hour, but in some cases the games might start 5 or 10 minutes late to begin with. By the time you get your children home and bathe them (absolute must after dirty, dusty tee ball game), you are struggling to get your kids in bed by 9:00 PM on a school night.

Why? So 5 and 6 year old kids can get in a 20 game season? Come on, we don’t even have outs and there is no score! It’s tee ball. We’re talking kindergarteners here.

  1. I hear ya brother! I went to my eleven year old granddaughter’s softball game last night which was by the way a school night for her. The game started at 8:25 p.m.instead of 8:00 p.m. The game ended at 10:00 p.m. The kids were both hyper and tired at the same time by the time the game was over. I wonder how well the kids did in school today? Can we start scheduling earlier games on school nights for these kids?
