What happened to people taking responsibility or being satisfied with appropriate compensation? Instead people are quick to sue and ask for exorbitant amounts of money that is well beyond the actual cost of the offense.
The epitome of this behavior has been exemplified by two high profile cases: the man with a $54 million lawsuit (originally $67M) against a dry cleaner for losing his pants and the man with a $1M lawsuit against a flower delivery company for revealing to his wife (who he is divorcing) his flower purchase for his girlfriend.
In the first case, the man was offered the value of his pants and while it may not have been equivalent to the actual cost, you can’t tell me the worth of his pants plus his pain and suffering amounted to $54M. In the second case, the man claimed he and his wife were not together at the time he sent the roses; then what’s the problem?
While I agree with each person’s right to a trial and fair compensation, I’m also frustrated thinking about the time and money each of these people waste in the judiciary system. Grow up, people, and learn to accept responsibility.
