We all know that ESL really stands for “Spanish as a Primary Language.”
The kids that come out of ESL classes actually able to speak English are the ones that went in speaking anything but spanish. This is because the teacher cannot communicate with them and they are therefore forced to learn English. We all know that immersion is the best way to learn any language, but alas, there are no tax dollars to be wasted that way.

There sounds a Yankee, I bet. Welcome to the international aspect of the Web.
ESL means: people who speak Polish, Hungarian, Cantonese, Swahili, Farsi, etc etc learning to survive in the new world. In Toronto, there are 110 different languages or dialects spoken and written. Some of the people who come here don’t even know the English alphabet, but they are here for their children’s future.

If you do learn English please make sure you learn the correct English (British) and do not use US English as they can’t spell our words correctly.

can’t spell “our” words correctly? What a moron. Nothing wrong with taking a language and changing the spelling of a few words to be spelled more like they are pronounced. Just cause you brits started spelling them wrong from the beginning does not mean we Americans have to continue that mistake. There is no correct or incorrect English, but if I were to learn ESL, I’d choose USA English, cause 300 million US citizens speak it.
