My Biggest Complaint About Spelling - Misuse Of It’s

My biggest complaint about spelling is when people misuse the abbreviation it’s when they actually mean the possessive “its”. I see it over and over and it’s really irking (I know that’s not a word, but I just made it up) me.

So tell me, what word did you “make up”?

  3. Amen.

What’s worse is that some dictionaries and other references are starting to say that it’s alright to use “it’s” for possesion.

This is not just a casual error - the misuse of the contraction is now appearing in formal documents, too.
