My Biggest Complaint About Secret Message Numbers From The Phone Company

It happens a lot to me. I call somebody and they haven’t paid their cell phone bill. So the cell phone company trots out this nice computer guy voice that says

“At the subscriber’s request, this phone does not accept incoming calls. Message #[secret message number from the phone company].”

I’ve got no problem right now with you not paying your bill. Been there, done that.

But why does the phone company spew these numerical id’s for the messages? It sound like Peyton Manning is calling an audible or some type of secret code you would give somebody when you were trapped. It reminds me of the movie Red Dawn and that mysterious code sent out to the rebels hiding in the mountains…

  1. Seriously, I think this may be the least confusing thing about cell phone companies. I finally got a handle on my wireless bill at this website www.myvalidas.com that analyzed it and saved me $40. I appreciated the savings, but I was happy just to get an idea of what the hell I am paying for.
