I went to Regis Hair Salon for a trim of my long layered hair.
I sat in the chair and said to the stylist “ I am very picky about my hair. I delay cutting it for over a year for fear of having a bad cut because it takes me so much time and effort to grow my hair long. I am tired of stylists not listening carefully to what I am asking for, so please let me explain what I want.”
She said “ok, I’m all yours. I’m listening”.
I said, “ As you can see I have long layers with face framing layers in the front. I want to keep this style, this shape, but my layers are just over grown and damaged. I do not want to lose any more than an inch of length. I want you to leave my layers the same, just take them up a bit to return the shape and movement of my cut. And I want my front layers around my face to frame my face again instead of just hanging there because it’s too long. I do not want my shortest top layer any shorter than my cheekbones. Does that make sense?”
Her: “yes”..so she repeated what I said to her and added “you want your shape and movement back right?”
Me: “yes” I also added, “my hair is curly and it responds best to a razor cut. This is how I previously had it cut and I was happy with the results, so please use a razor. I do not like a blunt scissor cut because it causes too heavy lines, looks choppy and not enough blending.”
She argued and said she didn’t want to razor cut it, assured me the cut would not look that way, and that she would blend it with scissors and she said word for word, “I promise you will leave here with a good haircut. If you are not happy, you do not pay.”
I said fine.
So she started to cut and right away I noticed she was taking thick chunks of my hair and just chopping. So I stopped her and told her that is not what I wanted, that I wanted it blended and soft, and that I wanted to keep my fullness and body, and that she was cutting it all off.
So I could see her getting visibly frustrated (and of course I was not hiding that I was not happy). So she turns me around in the chair so I couldn’t see what she was doing. She finished cutting and she used a hot straightener and serum on my hair. When she was done, she turned me around and asked what I thought. I was shocked that literally half my hair was GONE, and that I had a MULLET! So I said NO, I am not happy. This is not what I asked for! So she picks up a chunk of my already chopped hair and goes to cut MORE, and I just said, “NO! I’m done. Enough!” I got out of the chair and walked out.
My husband was there the whole time and he heard/saw this whole thing.
I have gone to other salons and each of them have been shocked at the negligence of this stylist, and at the obvious poor quality of work.
I need my hair back and I do not have 9 months to grow it back. This incident has cost the stylist the loss of the price of one cut, and an hour and a half of her time. It has cost me significant emotional stress, nine months to a year to grow my hair back, and it has affected my work.

Maybe considering suing for negligent infliction of emotion distress. That’s a pretty bad haircut. Sorry.

Why did you let her turn you around so you couldn’t see? If you are that particular about your hair, then you should have watched her every move. I would probably guess that your gut instinct told you to leave with first chop; I know mine did when I had a bad hair cut. I would suggest that the next time you need a hair cut, do some research for TOP of the line salons, not a mall salon like Regis. I have learned my lesson. If I just need a “buzz” cut I go to the mall or super cuts, but now I sport longer hair and I pay $$ to go to a top end salon. Painful lesson, good luck.
I also had a bad experience with Regis, but this salon was in Kentucky. I think they are all bad.

I agree on finding a good salon. When you’re picky, like I am as well, you have to pay out the money. It’s worth your happiness and no stress. I used to go to a place that costs a little over $20 for a haircut and wasn’t happy. The last few years, I’ve been going to Freestyle in MD. I don’t know if they have one in your area or if they’re all equally good. I pay over $40 and every time I pay I feel like switching salons, but then I remind myself that I don’t want a bad haircut. My sister-in-law went to Freestyle per my advice. She has a short framed hair cut that’s adorable and Freestyle does a great job. She switched once to save money and he hair style was ruined so she went back to Freestyle. Maybe in your area, you’ll have to pay $50 or $60, but I justify the expense by waiting longer between hair cuts. I get mine done every three months instead of every 6 weeks.

You may have way too many issues with your hair. You shouldn’t wait that long because youre gonna have to end up getting more cut off. You need help!

I am dying to know who the stylist was because I go there and I have not been happy. The girl who dyes my hair did it 4 weeks ago and swore to me that it would not fade even after I told her my hair does not hold color and that it fades golden and I hate it. She assured me that it wouldn’t and sure enough it has. I paid $100 for a box treatment I could have gotten at Walmart. I called them yesterday to have her fix it and she still hasn’t returned my phone call.

I know what you mean about the “hair dresser from hell!” I too suffered a horrible experience at the Regis Salon in Kerrville, Texas. I walked into the mall at 10 a.m. and expected them to be open, but the lady who was opening was nearly 10 minutes late. So when I go in I tell her I want my platinum blonde hair re-touched on the roots with very subtle low-lights just around my face of a darker blonde shade. She tells me she knows what Im talking about and can do it. I also tell her I need my hair trimmed. So she starts to foil my low lights and it looks like a very dark shade and she puts them all around my head! What part of just around my face do you not understand you moron!?? Well she goes to rinse me and she says “how fast does your hair grow?” she was asking me this because she had literally started my low lights like an inch from my scalp, so picture this. platinum blonde hair at the root….followed by a dark streaky disaster. That Bitch ****ed up my hair so royally! She left shampoo and gunk in my hair after the rinse that I would have to say, “you did not rinse it thouroughly”. and i still walked out with gunk all over my scalp. so I made her fix her so-called “low lights”. she said she could try to do them again. and i said “no, just take me all back to platinum blonde”. And I said ” these are not low lights, low lights are suppose to start at my scalp”. and she said ” well i thought they were gonna turn out that way.” So i did not walk out of the salon until 3 pm….five hours to color my hair!!! wow! i was sitting under the dryer and she would say things like ” i hope your hair doesnt fall out” or ” your hair is turning pink”… so we keep the process up of coloring it and rinsing my hair…. back and forth. because she would always see something she missed and put me under the dryer yet again. My scalp was burning and so were my eyes and my nose. I wanted to cry. And I walked out of there with chemical burns on my forehead and scalp. As well as scabs on my scalp from the over-processing of color she did on my hair. There was no way I was going to let her cut my hair! so I walked out of there, of course i did not pay for the “low lights” that she ****ed up on big time. But this Bitch had the nerve to charge me extra for “corrective color”. Why should I have to pay for her mistake!!!??? I was irate and I immediatley went home and contacted the Texas Dept. of Licensing and Regulation, I sent them pictures of my scalp and they decided to investigate. I hope she gets fired. There was another lady in there who walked out very unhappy with the way this woman had done her hair too. Her name is REGINA and she is the manager of this salon. She has no clue how to do hair and her ghetto dread locks were hanging down in my face as she rinsed my hair and almost hanging in my mouth. she even had to ask a co-worker what toner to use on my hair and how long to leave it on there. also, my hair….18 pieces total broke right off on the top of my head several weeks after this…..so i also sent that pic. to T.D.L.R.. and also my scalp started peeling for several weeks from this chemicaL burn. I hope my story will save someone else from this so called “hair dresser”. I seriously could have done a better job myself at home!… and also the shirt i was wearing got bleach all over it… even thru the smock i was wearing and i had to throw it away! Needless to say i still walked out of there with spots of brown on my hair that she could not get off from the “low lights” and told me I would have to “deal with them”. Best believe, i sent a picture of that to TDLR as well. Then I went to another place to have my hair cut and the lady is like “who colors your hair, its very damaged” and she saw the scabs and everything. She was shocked. Also, this manager who cut my hair was very unprofessional talking about how she went to a rehab center for smoking crack! how unprofessional! I went into regis salon because i expected a talented hair dresser to do my hair, what i got was a cracked-out bitch who didn’t know what the hell she was doing. she has no business working in any type of hair salon. hopefully, the investigators from TDLR will revoke her license! REGINA, YOU SUCK!!!

Really you should think about what you are paying for. If you are that picky about your hair, go to a place that hires more experienced people and pay the price. If you think about it, you only get your hair cut once a year. If you paid 75.00 to get it cut by a high end experienced stylist you would be paying about 6.25 per month. I would even pay 25 dollars a quarter to make sure I had good hair. find a stylist and stick with them. that way they know you and your hair.

That sucks, but personally, if it was that big of deal wouldn’t you have caught that person’s name? I understand some places are horrid, HOWEVER, sometimes it just happens to be a particular stylist. Bottom line, when I’ve had a bad experience (especially as bad as you are claiming) i have no problem putting their name out there. That way everyone knows not to go to that one particular person. Do you even know their name? If you are that picky about it, why didn’t you bother to go to a high dollar establishment just in case? Why did you let her continue to cut your hair and better yet, if you were that worried WHY DID YOU LET HER TURN YOU AROUND? I’m sorry, but I’m not quite sure I feel bad for you….you live and learn I guess.

I saw your pics- awful! I cant believe she would do that! I went to the Kerrville Regis before and was not happy. I brought three pictures (same girl just different angles). She had layered hair stacked shorter in the back and longer and angled in the front. The underneath was darker and blonder on top. She said she understood. As her started coloring, I noticed that she was doing the same color all around. I pointed out that I waned it darker undneath like the picture. She said, “Oh, its darker underneath?” I said yes. So he got out some awful dark blonde color and colored it underneath. She put me under the dryer and when she was done, it looked like someone had randomly colored different spots of my hair with a blond and brown marker. She failed to color my whole hair, just tyried to do plantium blonde “highlights” in my dark brown hair and then random spotches of brown. It was terrible and the cut was awful. It was not even at all. I just paid the lady and got it fixed. This was 5 years ago and I was young- only 19 and was scarred to say something to her. Now a days I would have stood up for myself.
