CNN is still using pop-up ads on their website. Actually, they’re pop-under ads.
Pop-ups and pop-unders disappeared from legitimate sites years ago. Pop-up blockers and the spread of Firefox as a browser have made the pop-up and pop-under virtually worthless as far as advertising is concerned.
So why is CNN still using the annoying little worthless bastards? Does CNN really generate a substantial sum of cash from these things? Do pop-unders put a dent in Anderson Cooper’s salary?
CNN has just undergone a very nice site revision. Everything is cleaner and easier to read. Now finish it off and dump the pop-unders, CNN.

Hear, hear!! The pop-unders are so very annoying. They do nothing but lower my opinion of the site and make me less likely to return. (Not to mention that I will never click on the ad.)

My Firefox browser does not even block the annoying Netflix and Orbitz pop-unders on CNN. Thank you for pointing this out!
