Yet another politician has been caught with his pants down. Apparently, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been part of a prostitution ring. Nothing new there. We can add that to a long list of politicians and preachers who commit adultrey, visit prostitutes, use crystal meth and pay men to have sex with them, sleep with the congregation, have sex with alter boys (we’ve profiled many of these on mybiggestcomplaint).
That’s how it goes in the world of politics and preaching. You get caught screwing somebody else and your response is to apologize. But you’re not man enough to apologize on your own. Instead you have your wife flanking you as you tell the whole world how you violated the sanctity of your marriage. After all, you need her help through this moment of weakness so you can be a man again. So, you coerce your wife to go out there and participate in the whole public apology with you. In a sense, she’s basically prostituting herself to you and the media in order for you to save face for hiring a prostitute. Meanwhile, you hope this plays well with the public. You hope we can accept this as just lapse of judgment by you, the family man. It would be a real tragedy if you lost your congressional seat or church over this one, wouldn’t it?
I can’t think of any place else that apologizing for adultery happens this way.
Let me tell how a real man apologizes. First, you don’t cheat on your wife. Second, if you do, you go out there, by yourself, and admit what you did. You don’t further humiliate your wife (or family) by allowing them to participate in your act of shame.

Nice write-up, but I have one question. If prostitution was legal like it is in some places, would this be different?
Not in my mind. Adultery is adultery. Cheating on your spouse is cheating on your spouse. You can pay for it or get it for free, but that doesn’t make the act different.
Either way, dragging your wife out there to participate in you apology is still sick.
I agree with you whole heartedly!!!!!!!!!!
