It seems like overnight “Pimp” became a positive thing. No longer did it relate to the beating, extortion, psychological manipulation, intimidation and sex slave like conditions that make the life of true pimp. Suddenly the silly, almost surreal, fashion of the pimp voided all of the negative connotations the word once carried.
No big deal until really until your 5 year old kid goes running around the house asking to “pimp” their bike, “pimp out” their room, or “pimp my myspace layout”. It’s one of those things as a parent that I dare not say “Don’t say that!” because it will only bring more attention to the issue.

Totally agree. Unfortunately, it is difficult to take anyone (individuals or our culture in general) to task about things like this for fear of being branded a “racist”.

I think this is more of a sexist issue than a racist issue, since “pimping” is procuring customers for prostitutes. Where did you get race from?
*sits back and waits for the backlash*
On an unrelated note, I wonder if there’s a show in Britain called “Ponce my Tram”….
