People, please stop this. The number is eleven. If you do this ask yourself if you EVER refer to the number eleven as “one-one” in any other context. Also, please ask someone to teach you how to count past ten.
Finally, if you refer to the emergency phone number as “nine-eleven” (as a lot of you do), please stop this as well. There is no eleven button on the phone.
Thank you.

Hmm. Good points. May I suggest a compromise? Ninety-one One?

What about those who say “September THE eleventh”???
This drives me nuts because it seems that by saying it that way, it implies the word “eleventh” is describing “September”.
As in:
Alexander THE Great
Dog THE Bounty Hunter
It should be “September eleventh”. It should be this way with ALL dates. May fifth- not “May the fifth”. UGH!!!!!!!!!

If that’s your biggest complaint, you’ve got a lot of living to do

It’s not the guy’s/gal’s biggest complaint, but it’s a good one. This drives me nuts too. No one was born on “July one one”, so stop saying “Nine one one.” Yes, 9/11 was bad, but it wasn’t the same as the number you call when you have a grease fire in your kitchen.

Bah! You americans with your back to front dates! While I agree with the original complainer here, I cant agree with some of the comments. “September eleventh”? “July ninth”? Thats not a meaningful date. It should be “[The] eleventh of September”, “ninth of july”.

nine one one IS the PROPER way to say it. If you say nine eleven, someone might try to find the eleven on the phone dial, and not be able to complete the call.
At least that’s what they taught in the Red Cross first aid class I took a few years ago

If you have ever had to you phonetics to relay numerical data on a radio you would say it nine one one. If you say it as nine eleven the eleven could be confused with a seven or many other things. Hey now I know how to iritate all you so from now on Ill use nine one one to refer to sept 11th. and none one two to refer to sept 12th wow this cool ………..

I have been writing, from several articles from my heart and research, about nine-one-one and the treasonous affairs and lies. That day was purposely picked to mock the American people. IT IS NINE ONE ONE. As in national emergency! Do not let any one influence you otherwise because to enunciate it nine eleven only serves to substantiate the whitewash. People, please read about this terrible act and its subsequent deceit and disinformation. As long as it is let stand like the JFK murder, the political expediency of the dedicated wrong will thrive and their agenda will destroy what is left of any decent society we should deserve. The litmus test for this site will be seeing my dissent in print. For our own democratic values and their continuity, please talk and read and act. Before the deluge. Peace out. FWL
