These people suck! It's like, MAKE UP YOUR MIND! YOU'RE MAKING MER NERVOUS! I worked in a grocery store the ENTIRE time I was in college and my goodness, we cashiers know EXACTLY what these people are doing... they're waiting for some cashier to majically open up her (or his) register and start checkin' away... NOT ON YOUR LIFE, BUDDY! If a cashier's not ringin' someone up, or lookin' for a price, it's probably because she doesn't really feel like it... certainly not for some line-changing, donut-buying, grocery store wanderer!
