While we’re at it, why bother smiling at the theater? Why bother laughing, crying, responding in ANY WAY WHATSOEVER!? Nobody who made the movie is there, right?
Why can’t clapping be an expression of emotion and appreciation that doesn’t necessarily require an audience?
Actually, I love clapping after a movie. Especially if it turned out to be the best darn movie for the summer. My reason for clapping, is that clearly the director got what he wanted out of it, cause it’s exactly what you were hoping for, and nothing less.

becuase clapping is a response to tell the performers what you think not an emotional outlet! GEEEZE
