I don’t know where to begin.
Let me set the variables for those of you who can’t figure out where I’m going by the title alone.
Notre Dame = Biggest Catholic University in the world.
Christmas Eve = Holiest night of the year.
That’s pretty much it.
Granted, Charlie Weiss’ coaching butt is on the line next year and as he’s already said, he really wants to have the extra month of practice a bowl game brings. But come on Charlie, it’s Christmas Eve!
Even none Catholics have heard of “E&C Catholics”. Easter and Christmas. The two most important religious holidays of the year and the only time regular church goers can’t get a seat at mass because all of the “E&C Catholics” show up for mass. You show up twice a year and even your mother won’t ask questions.
Now Notre Dame’s gone and thrown a wrench into the best laid religious plans. As I said in a prior complaint, Notre Dame already competes with 5:00 mass on the east coast throughout the season, but Christmas Eve Mass… it’s the holiest night of the year.
If the damn game goes into overtime, we could be conflicting with not only a mass, but the mass… yep, the big one - the Pope’s yearly Christmas Eve Mass broadcast from St. Peter’s.
Good move Notre Dame.
Maybe I just really don’t understand the “true” meaning of Christmas.

TC3,
College football is all about money. Money, money, money. I’m sure the PR people in South Bend are already coming up with some spin about how playing on X-mas Eve is actually the will of the trinity.
Enjoy the game.
You are absolutely 100% dead on! I will not be watching. I am a lifelong nd fan. this is a disgrace.the administration should be held accountable for this. What an example. It’s all about money, only!
