My Biggest Complaint About Not Pulling Into The Lane With No Traffic

Pull into the lane with the least traffic..or the one with NO traffic. Twenty cars shouldn’t have to change lanes because you decided to put into the “slow lane” Many times I’m driving home from work with a line of 10-15 cars are in the right lane with no traffic in the left lane and someone will pull out from a side road, left or right and go directly to the right hand lane.

I realize the right lane is supose to be the driving lane and the left the passing lane but c’mon, think people, you can either pull to a lane with no traffic and accelerate to speed or you can force 20 cars running 70 to have to change lanes

  1. All drivers suck

  2. i think its law to merge into the right lane , isnt diving into the fast lane from the merge lane to avoid faster cars a double lane change and incredibly dangerous?

  3. Sometimes you have to forget about “law” and use common sense and good judgement..like i said before 10 cars shouldnt have to change lanes because you wanted to get in the right hand lane per the law…you should get into the emply lane, let traffic pass, then you can get into the right lane if you want.

Say you’ve got a 4 lane road, two lanes one way,two lanes the other.. you cross from one side of the road and into the median..you look at the traffic comming and you see 10 cars in the right lane and none in the left lane..which lane do you pull into?

By “law”…the right lane..but if you do then those ten cars now have to change lanes or slow down so you can get up to speed..duhh

  4. In Pennsylvania, the law states that you must turn into the closest lane to you. Therefore, if you are making a left onto said highway, you actually must legally turn left into the left-most lane, and then after that, assuming you want to travel a a slow/moderate speed, and you can reasonably do so, you change into the left (oh, and please, please, PLEASE use your signal when changing lanes too).

Regardless, I’m in 100% agreement with the author of the post, and I always make it a point to turn into the lane where the closest oncoming car is farther away than the one in the other lane. It’s just polite.

But then again, who am I to be polite when driving - it goes against the norm these days, doesn’t it? Meh…

  5. When I was driving home tonight I had a guy look at me like I was in the wrong so I thought I’d come home a google it. Thanks for proving me right!
