The people who make cakes on TV shows like Ace of Cakes shouldn’t be allowed to call their creations cakes. If you can’t eat it, it’s not a cake. If the shell is made from waxy, modeling clay-like chemicals, that’s not icing. And if there is more waxy chemicals than cake, it’s not a cake. It needs to be spongy and have creamy smooth icing before I’m going to call it cake.
I’m not saying that the people who make Ace of Cakes (and other “cake challenges”) are talented, because they are. The end product isn’t cake though; it’s a sugar sculpture.

Thank you! I have the same complaint about Ace of Cakes- they aren’t cakes most of the time! Did you see the Harry Potter Castle? Almost completely made out of foam.
