Wow, what a nice concept! My Biggest Complaint . com allows people to complain. Interesting concept, bad way to promote it by bulk e-mailing and spamming people, I think.
However, bulk e-mailing people is not an interesting concept. I was given the impression that I am the only one being invited to MyBiggestComplaint, and in fact, I was simply one of the people who were bulk e-mailed the same exact e-mail. I thought we had moved beyond such tactics already?
I do not like being e-mailed on multiple channels with an email that tells me that I have been selected, directly, as a beta tester for this site, when many other people are sent the same exact email message in bulk, I do not like copy pastes.
If one cannot take the time enough to address me directly or know about me, why would one email me multiple times to help them? You aren’t helping me at all, and instead are giving me a false illusion that you are addressing me directly. Later, I find out that you are mass e-mailing the same thing to everyone.
Tsk tsk. Either I am being spammed, or I am over-analyzing things. I hope this complaint does not get deleted, since it talks about the very site that is being used to complain in this very complaint.
Nice concept, but probably really bad execution to get ahead the fast way!

Thanks for the post bes and sorry for the confusion. We emailed about 4 or 5 of what we thought were the best writers that we saw at peeve week. The text of the email was the same, but all emails were sent from the contact forms or email addresses provide on the respective authors’ blogs. We kinda thought that’s what the contact forms were for. Sorry if we bugged you.

From admin’s comments it doesn’t really sound like their actions were spamming. I would say that spamming is sending thousands, perhaps miliions, of random people advertisements for products. When somebody invites you to help review their site, because they believe you have valuable knowledge (not just because they want you to buy something), that’s sounds more like them asking for your expertise.
But let’s say that, hypothetically, they did spam you. Your post is proof that spam works!
Seriously, it doesn’t sound like spam to me, but if you think it is, that’s what matters.

Thanks for responding. Wow, that is indeed amazing. I had originally gone around thinking “Am I being spammed?” or “Am I really that good?” Comment forms are there for contacting, but if someone uses the contact form to send me similar e-mails as others, and never respond to me, I start thinking if there is something wrong with the e-mail or if I was being spammed. Like I said in my original post along the lines of, “Am I taking this out of context? Or was I spammed just to be lured into the site?”
You personally didn’t bug me; I love being contacted, though confusion about the same e-mail sent to more than one person and non-response turned an excited nature into “Was I spammed?
“. It’s just the method that threw me off track, and also the fact of immediately finding out that others were getting the same e-mail also. I am glad now that I also publicly doubted my ownself, throwing in the question and the assumption that I may not be completely right. Thanks for explaining what you did; I really appreciate it.
macaddict, thanks! You have a point. Spamming could indeed be sending to millions of people; however, are you saying that sending any e-mail [not the e-mail we are discussing, since admin above responded about it already], sent in batches of 5-10, or even 20, can never or not be considered spam?

A hard core spammer would get carpel tunnel syndrome sending out spam in waves of 10 emails. I usually think of spammers as people who won’t respond to your inquiries about why they mailed you, people who won’t take you off their mailing lists when you ask, people who are trying to sell something. They are basically computer driven mass emailing businesses.
I guess some people could look at an invitation to visit a site as spam, but I really don’t see it that way. I bet they wouldn’t email you back if you asked them not to.
I should say that if you are going to have a form where people can contact you about things on your blog, you probably don’t have much grounds to stand on when they do. Especially if it’s a real person and not a computer spam bot thing.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, a hardcore spammer would indeed go crazy spamming, and usually a hardcore spammer relies on automated mailings to do the job. I am referring to a spammer, hardcore or not, sending out millions of e-mails or only dozens, both manually and using automated mailing software, so I am trying to cover the entire base of such an act and ethic.
I posted the above notice on the 15th, and the original person who sent me those messages still has not responded to my original e-mails. That is around 15 days now, so using your definition in the second paragraph, I am not being responded to either.
Yes, a real person contacting me is nice, which happens everyday; ask any of my readers and they will let you know how they contact me anytime. However, my original post left a lot of open space for the person who originally e-mailed me and others using the same template, to let me know that I am completely wrong and that my assumption is wrong, and he/she has still not responded. You and the admin here are responding more, so I am going to assume, based on what I am noticing and what is said on this page, that for this issue, you and the admin here have acted nicely in response to this post, whereas the original person who contacted me has not. It is not nice to leave me hanging and not replying to any of my e-mails; it sounds like a bulk advertising e-mail, where I am not being responded to by the original person who e-mailed me multiple times.
Thanks again macaddict. I really appreciate it, since it clarifies more things and lets me know what things are real and what are virtual perceptions [which may or may not be real], for things including what I originally wrote.
