I think the world (or at least the United States) is seeing the true side of the Vick Brothers, Michael and Marcus.
Several other users have commented about their thoughts on Michael Vick torturing animals, and I’m not going to rehash those (nor any of the illegal, unethical, and unprofessional behavior of the Vick brothers).
The shame of it all is that most of the Virginia Tech community still held Michael Vick in high regards, even though his brother revealed his thug tendencies while he was still playing football for Frank Beamer. As the years have gone by, it became clear that Michael Vick was no better than his brother, he just wasn’t getting caught.
Now Michael Vick has disgraced Virginia Tech, too. And at a time when that is the last thing Virginia Tech Football and entire Virginia Tech University needs.
Michael, my prediction is that your career will end in the same way that Mike Tyson’s did. You no longer represent Virginia Tech and, at least in my mind, you are the Mike Tyson of football.
My only hope is that you do jail time just like Mike did.

You’re right that Michael and Marcus “no longer represent Virginia Tech”. This is not a “Virginia Tech thing” its an “Atlanta Falcons thing” , a “Nike thing” and an “NFL thing”. Those organizations have to answer for how a star of this magnitude could be involved in something of this magnitude without one single person on the team or in the organization realizing what was going on.
Big deal, there are worse problems in this country than dog fighting. If he had a wife, at least he doesn’t beat her, or deal drugs, or fight in bars, or go on gang shootings, or jump into the crowd and fight fans.
Seriously, this kind of stuff pisses me off. We’re more worried about the well being of an animal over the well being of our families. Fine him, suspend him and get it over with. There’s nothing wrong with it being illegal, there’s something wrong if he gets 6 years in prison for it.

How do you know what Vick is or is not doing? Did you know about the dog fighting before anyone else did? My guess is that you didn’t, which doesn’t speak well to your ability to know what else he is doing. What about the possession (ala airplane)? Did you know about that?
I agree that he doesn’t need 6 years in prison. But, I’m not sure that claiming that this issues is putting “the wellbeing of an animal over that of our families” follows from your argument. Who and how is this issue putting the wellbeing of an animal over your wife, husband, or kids (or family)?

Because we as americans somehow want to dramatize over this very fact. We focus our time and effort dealing with, debating about, talking about things that none of us can anything about. It’s not about this specific incident, it’s about our value system as a whole. By taking time out of lives for this retarded, crap, we pull time from other important things. I agree with you on the bigger picture.
I’m not dramatizing anything. I will point out that, like it or not, Michael Vick is (was) a Virginia Tech icon. I never believed that he should be, but there are buildings named for him here; half the town has a Vick t-shirt. All of southwest Virginia switched from being Carolina Panther Fans to being Atlanta Falcon fans when he signed with them. I’ll be the first one to tell you that there an infinite number of things that are more important than this. The point of my complaint is that Micheal Vick turned out to be the loser that I thought he was, and that his behavior further tarnished Virginia Tech at a time when Virginia Tech could have used an uplift. This really isn’t retarded crap as far as people who are associated with Virginia Tech are concerned (and there are a lot of them).
I do believe there are things to be learned from this incident. It is just too bad that it had to happen.

The problem with chickens is that hens don’t fight, they just sit around and lay eggs. Now roosters - those bastards will fight. Only problem is cock fighting is illegal just like dog fighting so now we’re back to square one.

If I can remember correctly, Vick was once the most popular player in the league, and not because of hatred. It was because he is an athlete un-like any we have ever seen before. He had the top selling jersey in the league (bought and worn by thousands upon thousands of people across the nation that you now claim ‘have always hated him.’) The racist cop-out excuse is getting so old and so incredibly lame. That’s not what Martin Luther King, Jr. stood for. He wasn’t out there saying ‘because of racism, we won’t be able to accomplish anything.” He was marching and saying “because we are strong, we can rise above ANY sort of discrimination, regardless of our RACE, RELIGION, GENDER, AGE, WEALTH, SIZE, SMELL, etc.” If anything, when it comes to issues like this, WE are the racist ones for pointing blame, and WE are the ones carrying hatred if we cannot rise above the crutch of using racism for excuses for anytime something happens. My main point is, I don’t see why people are trying to make Vick out to be such a victim here. He is the prime example of someone who has everything and throws it away for something with absolutely no value whatsoever. Wrong is wrong and what he did is not only so terribly cruel, it is also terribly embarrassing. I love him as a player, I hope he comes back and takes the league by storm again, and I wish the best for him…but I also pray that he truly has an apologetic, contrite heart and notices the wrong that he did so he can be a model citizen and stand up as a future role model that has been given a 2nd chance. I have known a lot of black people, and while they often will say, “such and such is a black thing,” I have never heard them said dog fighting was. In fact I’ve never heard anybody say it until you just did JuddyB.
I think most black Americans are disgusted by Vick’s behavior, even though many americans - of all races - enjoyed watching him play football and thought, before his fall from grace, he was a fairly upstanding man.
