Any of the official Live Earth Concert commercials or “tips”, or whatever you want to call them, are directed at me, the consumer. “Change your lightbulbs”, “Buy a hybrid”, “Burp less”.
I am not the problem with global warming, assuming for the sake of this complaint that there is such a thing as “global warming”, and also assuming that humans have created the condition.
I am just a consumer. The very nature of the word “consumer” indicates I consume. What do I consume? I consume what businesses create. I can go switch out the 10 lightbulbs I have left in my house that aren’t flourescent bulbs and it won’t do a damn thing.
Cameron Diaz just said something like “If 2 million people watching would just unplug a charger in their house it will make a really big difference.” Total bull****.
The idea that I, the consumer, can have any real impact on the situation is absurd. It’s almost as if you’re blaming me for the problem in the first place. Or is that I’m the only one who will listen.
Big business and the government whores who support them are the only ones who can make a true impact. I buy what they produce. Stop making incandescent lightbulbs and I won’t buy them. Stop making gas powered combustible engines and I won’t buy them.
Buy a hybrid car? F*** you. Produce a hydrogen car where I won’t even have to look at gas station and I’ll buy one tomorrow. The hybrid car is a spit in the bucket. Don’t say enough spits will fill up the bucket. They won’t. If you’re talking hybirds, it would take government issued hybrids to every driver on the road to make a dent in the problem and that won’t happen because the big businesses that are funding the government won’t let it happen.
Has the auto industry done anything in the last 50 years to significantly decrease any single driver’s dependence on oil? We went from 10 miles a gallon to 25 miles a gallon in 50 years. That’s not my fault unless you’re blaming me for not being an auto engineer.
You can give me all the tips you want Live Earth, it won’t do any good because I’m just a consumer and it’s not my fault. Don’t make it seem like it is.
