I had just brought a new Ipod touch on feb 20th. i then got it 5 days after i paid for 2-3 days shipping. i had it engraved so ok, i could deal with that. Then after gettin my Ipod touch i realized i had one dead pixel about a cm under the “i in ipod” on the left top of the screen. i have apple care. so i requested it to be fixed and sent it in for repair. after 5 days of waiting for my ipod to be shipped and diagnosed, i was told through online repair status that “No trouble Found”. Clearly they missed the pixel. IDK what they were looking at, obviously not the screen, when the problem clearly stated pixel problem.
So my ipod was sent back to me and i hoped mabye the problem had fixed itself along the bumpy road fedex takes. I then got my ipod the next day, and wouldnt you know it, my ipod still had the dead pixel. (yes i had several ppl look at the it to make sure it was there) lol. so i then called apple support and told them my situation. so once again they told me to send in my ipod for forced replacement. i had no idea this would take so long. it has now been almost a month since i got the ipod. and still i wait (march 17,09). and my biggest complaint is the fact that i brought a BRAND NEW IPOD. and because THEY messed up somewhere in the ipod factory. i pay the price of having someone else’s used refurbished ipod. I called to see if i could get a new one, by means of pickup at an apple store, but according to apple this is not an option.
If anyone has had a similar experience, i would love to hear. and I really want to contact apple about this refurbished ipod policy. It is unfair and unjust. But don’t think an email will suffice. Who would i mail it too???

Yup!
Guess how many itouchs i gone through? In 1 1/2 years? Apple always is quick to give me a new one (or refurbished). Sounds like they have some issues.
I am on my 3rd. I use it in a docking station radio, I use everywhere, and I take care of it, cradle it. But it has several quirky issues. Its just has issues on top of issues. None of which are my fault. So i get as many refurbished itouchs as possible once I have any problem. After apple care runs out, bitch and complain until they give you another refurbished itouch. They are really good but I would never pay hundreds of dollars for this particular device. Thank god I got it for free.

You know, dead pixels aren’t really a problem worth repairing. It can’t be fixed. My laptop’s TFT dead pixel’s dead, so it’s dead, and the factory won’t replace the LCD for anything.

it’s not exactly apples fault for dead pixels. its not something they mess up in the factory. it could of been wrecked within shipping. dead pixels happen to all lcds eventually… just be patient and quite being a little baby

Yup i sent my iPod touch in this past tuesday and i just got an email saying they are sending me my iPod back and stating that it “meets Apple specifications for performance, usability, and functionality.” If the dead pixel’s still there i’ll be pissed.

When you spend 200-400 dollars on a product it better be in f*&%^ing good shape with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER, for at least a year or two. Apple’s care policy is the way to go. Genius Bar is really a awesome feature the stores have. Without it Apple’s customers would be pissed. Kinda of like Xbox issues nowadays. When you buy an apple product make sure you get the best care service plans you can get. Then you are protected. Just go to the store (in person! Dont send anything anywhere!) and pick up anew or refurbished item after you discuss the issue. It can be for dead pixels, malfunctions, or even a jail broken itouch. Just go to Genius bar they will hook you up. And speak to a manager if they give you any crap. If you have something that is malfunctioning and you spent that kinda of money they better repair it for free and let you go on your way to spend 1.29 on your favorite songs.
