Another problem with iPhones! Changing my email address that i’ve been using for 15+ years is not an option!
I found the best work around was to go to www.yahoo.com, sign into my mail to view the spam once every week or so.
In addition, I have set-up/created a personal spam folder….then would move junk to this folder, then flag as spam during my weekly login to www.yahoo.com

I understand e-mails come into my MAC…they are filtered to go to either my IN box or my Junk Box……….that’s fine……BUT, when my MAC sents received message to my Iphone…it’s sent BEFORE the filter action is in play……thus, my phone gets ALL my main in it’s IN box…and I then have to manually delete all the junk/spam it gets from my MAC……I KNOW THERE MUST BE AN EASY WORK-AROUND RATHER THAN MY HAVING TO CHANGE E-MAIL ADDRESS…HOW DOES ONE FIX IT SO THAT MAIL SENT TO MY PHONE IS DONE AFTER MY COMPUTER HAS FILTERED OUT THE TRASH!!!!! I don’t want to change e-mail address…I just want the phone to get the benefit of my MAC’s e=,mail filter system……

I have to completely agree it is seriously shocking to see that Apple has eliminated the spam filter. It seems like it would just be something that every email app would have as a basic necessity. So it had to be a conscious decision to leave it out which is just not smart.

I have found a really decent way that I can go around this defect.

I logged on to my yahoo account in safari and sign in. Making sure to click the keep me signed on option so I wouldn’t have to sign in every time. Then when on my initial mailbox screen I added that link to my home page. So essentially I have two mail icons now. The saved link is where I go to edit messages spam and all and because I’m already logged in it goes straight to the mailbox without having to sign in. Only downfall is that it creates a new webpage everytime so I have to male sure and close the page manually when it opens too many. and I use the iPhone mail app for getting the notifications and regular deleting. It’s become functional enough for me that it does lessen the sting from not having spam feature in the iPhone but still let’s me effectively manage my mail. Looking at 20 emails a day legit with 80 spammed.

Is apple ever going to fix this? I use Apple Mail on my MBP, and it filters the messages perfectly (all my junk ends up in the junk folder), but the iphone puts everything in the inbox. Yes, I can leave the MBP running and let its algorithm filter the junk, but if I turn the MBP off, then the iphone sees everything.

I use imap with my gmail account. Gmail filters all the “viagra” spam into its “spam” folder, but I let the unsolicited subscription junk pass thru to Apple mail - which filters it into the “junk” folder.

I don’t use the cloud as I prefer to keep my data available when I’m not online which means I use Thunderbird as my email client
I don’t see why I should risk missing an important email by using my email providers junk filtering algorithms.
It makes much more sense to do my filtering on my PC where I can periodically check the Junk folder to see if something has been placed there by mistake
When I’m not at home and want to check my emails using my iPhone I have a massive headache deleting the hundreds of spam emails I get each day to find the one or two that are legitimate

May I suggest we spam Apple with requests for a junk filter until they get the message?

The problem(s) with using Gmail or HotMail is you are leaving your (potentially) private email in the hands of the provider. Google definitely looks at the content of your email so they can target ads to you. They have this content forever. Also, when gmail is down, so are you!

Do you think some of the spam is from the app programs? Some of the email is exclusive to the iphone because I check my email on my imac too and don’t receive the same junk mail. I have 2 email accounts: charter and gmail (newer) and I don’t get junk mail on my gmail account.

Forgot to mention in my previous message, you need to set up a gmail account on the iphone also and make it active.

I use gmail exclusively. I set up gmail to get my email from my primary email provider as well as my gmail account. Then on iphone I set the primary provider to inactive (switched off in settings, mail, accounts) and leave gmail as the active mail account. All the filters set up in gmail restrict junk getting through to my iphone inbox.

Bought iPhone for email. Have 4 accounts, and now totally inundated with spam. Reading above there doesn’t seem to be a good fix. Apple closed their architecture 25 years ago with the Mac and gave the market they dominated to everybody else. You would think humans could learn from history. They are doing it again. I have 30 days to return iPhone for a Droide — bye bye iPhone.
