My Biggest Complaint About Grocery Store Baggers

Trust me, I always want a bag for my milk.

When did grocery store baggers start asking if you want a bag for your milk? It seems like only yesterday they were double and triple bagging everything they could get their hands on.

Is not bagging my milk by default an effort by grocery stores to “go green”? I try to be as environmentally conscious as the next guy, but not bagging my milk by default won’t save any polar bears and won’t help keep any icebergs afloat. I’m sure of it.

Maybe your car isn’t as dirty as mine (not really saying much), but unless you want car carpet fuzzies and other particulate matter found in your automobile all over the inside of your refrigerator, you should want a bag with your milk also.

Grocery stores: Please switch the default to “bags for milk”.

  1. I read this complaint some time ago and it has been in the back of my mind every time I head through the check out. I’m over it. This is so out of control with my grocery store that I finally had to politely confront them about not putting most of my groceries like milk, beer, juice and water in bags anymore.

The cashier said the new store policy is to only give customers a bag for items that have a handle if the customer requests a bag because “bags cost money”.

80% of the items I bought this evening had handles, if you really want to consider them handles. Milk has a handle - so I can hold on to and pour it out of the carton, not so I can carry it and 20 other things to my car and make 5 extra trips into my house so the grocery store can save a little cash on giving the customer a bag.

I’m just thankful the employee gave me an honest answer instead of something like “we’re trying to save the environment”.

You’re trying to lose a customer, that’s what you’re trying to do.

I’m no accountant and I don’t really know how much bags cost. But I bet it’s cheaper to give bags to customers for everything than it is to find a new customer.

  2. Another example of how Liberalism is out of control.

  3. Why do you people blame it on the cashier for asking if you want a bag for your milk?
they are just doing thier job I am so sick and tired of everyone blaming their cashier for everything that is wrong in their life. Why do you need a bag if it has a handle anyway? Get a clue be nice to you cashier and they will give you the same respect. Your just lazy if you can’t make an extra trip to your car. GET OVER IT!!!!!1

  4. I have to say I’m tired of cashiers being blamed for everything to and this thing about the milk in the bag is just dumb you need to get over it how hard is it to say that you want the milk in a bag it’s not that big of a deal.

  5. Be even more pro-active and bring your own re-usable bag and bag your own ****. OR, ask for paper bags and then a plastic one for the milk.

  6. I don’t want a ****ing bag for my milk. who the **** needs a bag for milk? How horrible is it that you’re given the choice, it’s almost like the checker wants to make sure you’re satisfied which makes you unsatisfied.

  7. I’m thinking of having a tee shirt made up for supermarket visits saying

I do want bags for my shopping
I do not have a loyalty card
I do not need a receipt
