I see on average about two or three grandparents a week involved in custody cases where the grandparent has been forced to step up and assume responsibility for raising their grandchild because the parents of the child either don’t want to raise the child or the paretns are just completely incapable of raising the child. Granted, as an attorney that handles domestic cases, I usually only see the bad side of things.
The epidemic of grandparents raising grandchildren is enough to make you think we really are all going to hell. How has the American society deteriorated so much in the span of 20 years to the point where parents are so irresponsible that “dropping them off at grandma’s” is now so often followed by “permanently”?
