I love receiving them, don’t get me wrong, but why do they have to be so difficult to open?
I received a birthday gift in a beautiful box that was actually as pretty as the gift itself from the “Hallmark” store. The gift, which was a candle warmer by the way, had so-o-o- much styrofome surrounding it that it took two of us to retrieve the warmer. Ten minutes to be exact.
If I had been by myself I probably would have ruined the box to retrieve my gift but it now sets in my living room in the corner as a decoration. We did get quite a laugh out of it , but it was still quite frustrating trying to open it.

puddles,
It seems like I have to get heavy duty scissors or a utility knife to open almost everything I buy. Often I actually cut the item. AND in addition, the amount of waste that is generated (not biodegradale and easily recyclable waste, at that) is tragic. On things, for example, like a memory card, there is often 10×10 inches of thick plastic and it weighs more than the item itself. Insane.
@Mr. Squeaky - I see your memory card and raise you 1 kid’s toy.
Christmas and birthdays are impossible at my house. Every kid’s toy has at least one super heavy duty wire twist tie, heavy duty clear scotch tape and hard molded plastic holding the item in the box. Each doll has at least one super heavy duty wire twist tie holding each extremity in place and is usually secured by a flat plastic brace at the rear of the package.
Last Christmas, we went so far as to purchase a pair of Black and Decker power scissors to help with opening the gifts. Luckily we were smart enough to make a test run with them because if we actually ended up using the power scissors to open the packages, we would have easily lost a finger or two on Christmas morning.
EVERY thing has become difficult to open. I don’t care if it’s an expensive watch or a cand bar. I just had a battle with a CFL bulb–I had to go back to the kitchen shears three times before I managed to get the four-buck item out of the plastic wrap.

I can’t open a bag of cereal, and I am a woman. I am 26 years old and if there anything i can’t do is wrapping and unwrapping no matter what it is. it takes me forever to wrap up a birthday present and after all the effort i put in it, it still doesn’t come out anywhere close to decent! as for cereal boxes, it is not that easy to open the bag, so you give it your best try and the whole thing goes all over the place!!!
