My Biggest Complaint About Gas Station Parking

If you pull up to the gas station and there are 3 pumps in on your side, pull up to the front one when available, don’t stop at the back one, because now it has officially become a pain in the ass to get to the one in the front.

Hopefully this makes sense.

  1. What about the cars with the gas door on the other side?

  2. Duh, go to the other side.

  3. The other side? How so if my tank is on the same side as the car in front of me and the adjacent tanks all have cars parked in them. What? Go AROUND the other side to get to the front? Thats exactly my point, I hate doing exactly that.

  4. Okay, let me try again: if I pull into the pumps and use the one at the *back*, I’m leaving the pump in front open for someone whose gas door is on the other side, who is pulling in from the other side. Car manufacturers carefully adjust cars so that at any given time exactly 50% of them have the door on the left, and 50% have the door on the right. Although I may just made that up.

  5. @JGilly, Here’s the thing, your situation wouldn’t seem so bad if there were two entrances to the gas pumps, but most of the ones I’ve been to, only have one entrance. So the person, who’s gas door is on the other side, that is pulling to the *front*, is probably only doing that because the pump that he could have pulled into, was blocked.

  6. Ah, most of the ones I deal with can be accessed from both sides (so there’s not even really a “front” or “back”). So I guess I must recuse myself from the discussion. :-) And you’re right that you can’t judge the situation if you come upon a person using the “back” pump, as the person at the “front pump” may have just pulled away. There’s plenty of *real* bad things going on at gas stations anyway: people not turning their cars off, or pumping gas into cans in their trunk or truck bed, or getting in and out of the driver’s seat while the gas is pumping.
