My Biggest Complaint About Free iTunes Cards At Starbucks

Un-Giveawayable?

Starbucks is giving away a free iTunes download each day for a month. It sounded like a pretty cool idea to me at first - free music, coffee, great idea.

That is until I realized Starbucks and Apple have actually teamed up to give away the un-giveawayable. The music is horrible. It’s so bad, literally - it’s un-giveawayable. So far, at the end of each day Starbucks is left with a stack of cards that is about 50 cards thick. The stack sits there all day and nobody wants them.

So far this week Starbucks and Apple have tried to shovel a 6:18 Bob Dylan song out there for customers and today they are following it up with some, assuredly, total crap from Joni Mitchell. When did they become the geriatric coffee shop?

When you can’t give away free stuff, it’s bad. People take pennies out of the penny cup more than they take these free download cards.

  1. I would say this is only the third day and you seem to be jumping the gun, but I’ve seen the full list. There are a few good days but for the most part it gets worse.

  2. I can’t understand why they pick songs that are so sleepy. Everyone in the place is gettin jacked on a frap with 5 shots. Are the songs supposed to be downloaded and played later on at night when your buzz is dead?
