My Biggest Complaint About Football Players Talking About Hostile Environments

If you ever watched even one football player, or coach, or announcer talk about football, surely you’ve heard them proclaim that they are “going into a hostile environment” when they play in the visiting teams stadium. Talk about the overstatement of the century.

What do these multimillionaire dollar princesses know about “going into a hostile environment?” Football is a game guys. You’re lucky that you are good at it, and you even luckier that Americans are stupid enough to pay you millions of dollars to perform for them. Honestly, that’s like my five year old kid talking about going to “work” when they take out the garbage and then demanding $500 dollars for doing it because it was raining.

I will concede some football players have come from places that nobody should grow up in. Many have seen things, I’ll never see except in movies. They know what a hostile environment is. Of all the people who should be using the term “hostile environment” they shouldn’t. Growing up in a violent, drug infested ghetto with guns and prostitutes, shouldn’t be lumped together with the “hostile environment” of an away game. The other players who grew up in the lap of luxury, shouldn’t use the term hostile environment, because, like my five year old, they have no idea what a hostile environment is.

  1. I agree that it’s silly for football players to use the term “hostile environment” but for a completely different reason.

Football is a “hostile environment”. That’s the whole idea. The point of the game is to create a “hostile environment” for your opponent on every play. The bigger and faster the collisions, the more “hostile” the environment becomes.

So for someone who makes their living in the “hostile environment” that is football to consider playing in front of opposing fans who have had too much to drink and will yell and scream obscenities until it’s time to get another beer to be the “hostile environment” is plain old mouth poop.

  2. I think these “these multimillionaire dollar princesses” know a helluva lot about going into a “hostile environment”.

Although as you said macaddict, it’s just a game, the game is one of the most “hostile environments” in all of sports. I agree with slappy.

  3. as a player in high school and soon to be college i say it all depends on the place. i play at one white trash town with crazy fans you get **** thrown at you when you have to walk through the crowed right before the game and have to listen to them just rip on you. i mean it ant no geto but ya wana just stomp there asses out.
