My Biggest Complaint About Everyone That Shops

To All Who Shop~

Let me start by saying that I am not one of those people who hate their job. I actually really like my place among the retail workers of this great nation. BUT . . . there are a few things I have to get off my chest:

  1. When you enter a store and someone takes the time to greet you, the least you could do is acknowledge their exsistance.
  2. When you browse through the product, is it absolutely neccessary to destroy the entire rack and unfold every sweater in every stack?
  3. My store is not a trashcan. The least you could do is ask where the garbage can is.
  4. When I was a child, my parents made sure I was well behaved and didn’t run through the store ripping all the displays down and leaving a trail of crackers behind me. On the flip side of that, don’t you think it’s a bit cruel to drag your child around the mall several times a week for hours on end?
  5. When you shop in the evening, please take the time to ask when the shops close and keep that in mind when it’s closing time!
  6. Okay, heres a big one! When you purchase something please be sure to read the return policy that is on the back of the reciept or posted at the register. Not every retailer is the same and screaming at me because you can’t return an item for the origianl price you “swear” you paid on whatever form of payment you “swear” you used without your reciept is a waste of both yours and my time.
  7. And another note on returns: do you think I’m stupid when you try to return something that you have obviously worn. It smells funny, it LOOKS worn, and are you that cheap? Here’s another clue, follow the care instructions printed on the label and don’t lie to me and say you did when I know you didn’t.
  8. Are you seriously going to get mad at me when I say “I’m sorry, unfortunatley we are not allowed to let you bring your husband into the dressing room with you”. Have you ever considered that it might make some of the other women uncomfortable?
  9. Please take the time to read the sings in the store and don’t throw a hissy fit when I am unable to sell you the item you want at the price you think it “should be”. If you haven’t caught on, retail company’s tend to use “and up” sings. Don’t just assume the $ amount is the price, look at the tag!
  10. Please read the fine print on the coupon. That is all I have to say about that.
  11. When you decide to try items on, must you throw everything on the ground inside out after trying it on? You don’t own that product, so where’s the respect? Would you want to buy something that has been lying on the ground? No, I didn’t think so. Just take 2 seconds and hang it up!
  12. Another note on trying on items: if you want to wear a ton of makeup that’s your choice, but please be aware of what you leave behind on the clothes. Would you want to buy something that has foundation and lipstick all over it? Once again, I didn’t think so.

In conclusion, it comes down to respect for your fellow human. While our job is not brain surgery or politics, most of us work very hard and deserve just as much respect as the next person. We have bad days too, so cut us some slack, and we will do the same in return for you.

  1. And nobody reads the signs either!

    ;-)

  2. that’s freakin hilarious~!

  3. You are dead on!!! A few things you forgot to mention…….

To the messy fitting room…does your closet at home look like that?
Please wear sanitary napkins when trying on clothes, or at least have the courtesy to tell us afterwards. 1, we know it was you and, 2, what if you were the person that found it???!!!
Our fitting rooms are not bathrooms for your children, let alone a place for you to dispose of your dirty diapers! Again, do you let your children urinate (or poo, for that matter) in the middle of your living room?
    We do NOT barder!!!!!
I could go on and on, but that will not do any good. People will never change or respect what we do, and put up with. Do onto others…..

Would I come in to your work and yell at you because I can’t read????

  4. Good points. I work in an art museum and I have a few more to add:

Please do not answer your cell phone in an art museum and if you must talk, then just say, “I’ll call you back.” It is so rude to chat on your phone while others are trying to admire a piece of work in peace or read the information about the artist or art work.

Do not be so rude as to change a childs dirty diaper on the chair in a museum gallery. Go to the bathroom for gods sake!

Do not touch or sneeze on the artwork! All day long I watch people reach out as if it is show and tell. Art museums are for looking only! Don’t put greasy hands on 100-year-old paintings! Same goes for modern art. Just because it is not an antique does not mean you can touch it to see what it feels like.

Don’t put kids on your shoulders and walk around so they can see - or let them run through the halls. They can fall and hurt themselves and/or damage the art work.

Teenagers: please do not sprawl out on the floor or lay on the chairs as if you are sleeping. If you have an art assignment to work on - bring a pencil (not a pen) and ask to borrow a clipboard or use a book as a hard surface. Don’t write on the walls or the display cases.

    Thanks!

  5. I am not in the sales field not would I want to be. As a shopper I have noticed that the statements above are so true. I was brought up to take care of the things around me. I can’t afford much but if I were to go into a dressing room and try on a dress that cost $100 or so I would be so careful with it. Remember when you picked out the dress and tried it on it was in a condition that you would want to buy it - try and leave it that way. It’s only common courtesy. I kind of think that is comes from children raising children - they don’t get “trained” like they used to.
