My Biggest Complaint About Erectile Dysfunction Ads During Family Sporting Events

Old Man Sex Ads - Stop it when my kids are watching!

I love to watch sports. I love to watch sports with my family which includes two little wookies ages 6 and 4.

I cringe and then quickly lunge for the remote every time an erectile dysfunction ad comes on when the little ones are close by. Cialis and Levitra are just two names until your kid starts asking, “Why did that guy start washing his car with the sprinkler (latest ad I saw yesterday)?” or “Why did that guy quit watching the basketball game and run into that back bedroom with that hot chick half his age?”

Televised sporting events like The U.S. Open are great opportunities to share good times with your children, show them (hopefully) good sportsmanship and teach them the rules of the game. I should not have to sit there and suffer through these ads about old man sex and have to explain things to my kids that I’m not ready to explain.

A friend once said to me “I’ve got no problem with what somebody else is doing, until I have to take 5 minutes out of my day to explain it to my kid. At that point, their problem becomes my problem.”

Erectile Dysfunction ads could probably have no better audience than a captivated bunch of men sitting in front of the television watching a game, but there are other people watching the game, too.

  1. i don’t get how parents can watch any television with their kids. it’s a non-stop assualt on their innocence. the ads you mention are actually less offensive than many in that they are presented using language and refrences beyond the understanding of young kids. the average sitcom is far worse, and the “highlights” of these–apparently the sleaziest moments–are shown constantly. this is a culture in serious decline.

  2. They should probably air them during “Nanny 911″ or somesuch…. might make people think twice though?

  3. I agree, but I think ED ads should be banned on US television. There is nothing worse than having to sit through them when watching TV with family. Or even by yourself, watching some old cheeseball talk about being able to do his wife whenever he wants is just plain annoying.

And the consult your doctor is you experience an errection lasting 4 hours or more is just laughable.

  4. the 4 hour errection is a serious problem. Most guys who get it are affraid to go to the doctor and it results in a broken unit.

  5. I am a former Pfizer employee and agree 100% that the Viagra ads don’t need to run at 6 p.m. when my young daughters are watching TV. I recall that Pfizer first justified the Viagra ads by claiming erectile dysfunction was a serious medical condition that needed to be addressed. However now the commericials are absolutely about recreational sex and depict some bald headed guy picking up his wife on a motorcycle and driving to a hotel for sex. The ad states that Viagra brings “spice” to your sex life. It is simply disgusting! What happened to the serious medical message about ED? I guess Pfizer had to go after more customers as the ED market got more crowded. The good thing is that viagra will be generic soon and Pfizer won’t spend a single penny to promote it anymore. All of a sudden erectile dysfunction won’t be important to Pfizer anymore and they’ll start promoting some other product on TV. Let’s hope Levitra and Cialis will stop their spending war when Viagra vanishes from our TVs.
