Why do people drive under the speed limit on perfectly safe dry roads? What keeps these peoples feet from depressing the gas pedals of their cars to the proper depth? Perhaps its the phone call they are on with the phone propped under their chin as they gesticulate wildly. Perhaps it is the paper they are reading while they drive. Or maybe even the makeup they are putting on while they steer with their legs.
I guess all of those are good reasons for driving under the speed limit. Get of the road, you asses.

I think many people want to drive that speed to drive legally. I’ve seen plenty of people speeding while doing other things. EIther way, doing other things while driving is a bit dangerous. If you feel compasionate about the speed limit, find a way to change it. We may need an update. Although I don’t think people have become better drivers.

Slow drivers are as much of a problem and fast ones, if not more of a problem. You need to keep up with the flow of traffic and not slow it down. Slow drivers suck.

So does anyone have a problem with someone going 65 if the legal limit is 65? If you feel people need to drive 70, I feel you are saying you want somone to do something illegal. I do however feel those who want to follow the legal limit should be in the slower lanes only to avoid other drivers’ road rage. You never know who will follow you and kill you. (Of course that is an extreme example.) In conclusion, I’d say that drivers going within the speed limit, for example 60-65 on the freeway, should not be honked at for being legal.

I should have been more specific. I mean people driving less than 2/3 of the speed limit on main roads and freeways. I’ve been stuck behind people driving 40 in 65 mile zones, or clear dry roads. A bit under is fine, but way under smacks of a lack of consideration for other drivers.

Oh yes, Chris. I agree. Its scary when you are the passenger in the car of a really slow drvier. And it also amazes me that crazy fast drivers also become crazy slow drivers, esp. when they are distracted.

Here in massachusetts freeways you will be smacked if you drive under the posted speed. If you want to drive slow the freeway is not the place to putt around. 65mph is slow anyways when i travel to NH i go 75-80. An i use a radar detector…

Why don’t cars have speed limit buttons on them? Just like cruise control. You see a speed limit sign that says “35″ you push the 35 button. Easy. Just a panel of buttons that you push whenever you see a speed limit sign. That way, noone drives under and noone drives over. Why are the simplest things so hard to implement?
I say this because so many times people are speeding and they don’t even know it because they have their eyes fixed on the road and not the numbers. Think about it, you must shift your gaze in order to see how fast you are driving. To constantly look up and down from the road to the numbers is stupid. Feet do not have any way of knowing what the speed limit is. If we had a simple button and kept the foot rested near the brake then these types of problems would disappear.

Most of the time, these slow drivers are not paying any attention to the road signs and thus they drive however slow they want to. Makes you think, they are a danger to themselves and others if they are not making themselves aware of the road rules. A posted speed limit of 35 does not mean you can go 25 just because you feel like it. If you are not comfortable traveling the speed limit, maybe you should not be operating a vehicle.
What’s funny is, I find the same people who go too slow in zones of 45-50 will go 45 in a 35 zone consistently! There should not be an option unless weather or traffic conditions require it. Too slow is just as bad as too fast!
