My Biggest Complaint About Coffee Carafe Designers

I like and I drink a lot of it. Most of it from drip . It seems like at least 75% of the coffee carafes I use dribble or just plain spill coffee everywhere. My favorite is when I try to pour it and runs down the side of the carafe as if they designed it specifically to avoid my coffee cup at all costs. If I wanted my coffee all over the floor, I would have had one of my kids pour it for me.

The last two s I used dribbled extensively. Granted both were older models, but come on Krups is supposed to be a high end coffee maker. I poured from a Kitchen Aid coffee carafe the other day and the entire first cup went on the floor. It isn’t my Parkinson’s Disease either, because my never dribbles and I’ve poured out of it for five years.

I have a challenge to issue to all those people that design coffee carafes. Either make them so they don’t drip or include a dozen sponges and a drop cloth.

(For the record, I really don’t have Parkinson’s Disease and I have no complaint about that.)

  1. I have taken a page from my chemistry lab days. Use some form of stirrer - stick form- insert it into the center of the coffee cup or urn opening and hold it upright, and then place the pour spout of the coffee carafe against it and pour - the liquid travels down the upright stirrer, and does not go to the outside of the carafe and down the side. When I fill the thermos urn, I use the step of the pump as the upright member.

  2. I’m sure that Mr. Coffee, Krups, Sunbeam, Black and Decker, Hamilton Beach, etc. have all heard this complaint untold numbers of times. My guess is that compact design is why they don’t use a carafe similar to Bunn. I still think that when planning to sell many thousands, if not millions, of machines, they could find an engineer who could overcome this problem.

  3. I have found that wiping a small amount of plumbers silicone grease on the lip of pour stops my problem with the coffee dribbles
