My Biggest Complaint About Cart Fees

Most golf courses prohibit walking a course during certain hours. Courses require golfers to rent a golf cart. But you probably knew this anyway.

What’s the complaint? Believe it or not, I’m not complaining that you have to rent the golf cart instead of being able to walk the course, that’s a complaint that goes without saying.

My biggest complaint about golf cart fees is that regardless of whether or not you are a single golfer renting a cart or you are forced to ride with another golfer, both golfers pay the same fee. One golfer riding alone pays the same cart fee as two people riding in the cart.

See the problem?

If I rent a car, no one else is forced to pay the same amount to ride in the car. If I rent a house or an apartment, my roommates and I are likely to split the rent. Get the picture?

If a golf course is going to force me to rent a cart that I don’t want and then they are going to stick someone in the cart I don’t know and don’t care to play golf with in the first place, we should at least be allowed to split the cart fee.

If the golf course won’t let us split the fee, at least stop insulting my intelligence. Quit calling it a rental fee. Call it what it is - “forced surcharge”, or “involuntary fee”, or whatever else sounds good.

  1. sounds like you need to find another golf course. If enough people do this then guess what things will change at the original golf course. It called free market. Competition increases quality and value and can even lower price.
