Just got back from the Apple Store in Bethesda where a rude, patronizing “Mac Genius” who wasn’t listening essentially tried to claim that the bend in my MBP 17″, bought in December, was my fault due carelessness on my part–i.e. some “accident”.
He really didn’t have a good response when I pointed out the if the bends/warps were the result of an “accident” there would be scratches etc on the MBP and the screen would be damaged as well…
So, I found this site while researching a defect issue with my new MBP 17″ (MacBook Pro)–the case is bent/warped.
So, I found a of related complaints here–as well s other references in the ‘Web” basically this is a KNOWN-ISSUE.
In my case the “Genius” at the Bethesda Apple Store tried to, in a rude and patronizing manner, that it had to be my “fault” due to some “accident”.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch:
About 10 years back I something similar happen with my PowerMac 7100/66. The fuse on the motherboard blew.
Make a long story short I finally ran across information that that was another KNOWN-ISSUE and Apple finally, grudgingly had the motherboard replaced…
Apparently, Apple will only admit to and “fix” or replace KNOWN-ISSUES once one has irrefutable proof that it isn’t an isolated case and/or can come up with information they try to deny/suppress.

God, take responsibility for your own actions,
Metal bending on its own without any external force, please. Sit back and think for a moment, how would that anodized aluminum bend on its own, maybe heat but the amount of head needed to bend it would melt the components way before the metal is effected.
Why were the other components or LCD not damaged you say, that depends on the area it’s effected. Why no scratches? Because it’s most likely been in a case of some sort and was caused due to small amounts of forse/pressure over time. Also the reason why you can think of an ‘accident’ you had with the Mac.
This is not a manufacturing defect. Stop complaining and take responsibility for your own actions.
P.S
Get a book on some basic science, looks like you have some catching up to do.

‘Fraid I have to comment on Mr. Smith’s comment…….
There have been far to many “complaints” of this sort to cast them all aside as “accidental but unintentional damage”. If, in fact, the aluminum housing of these machines, which are intended to be schlepped from place to place, is so fragile as to bend or warp with “small amount of forse(sic)/pressure over time”, then there IS a problem and IT IS NOT the consumer’s…
While this may not be a manufacturing defect, it is certainly a design flaw and should be corrected by Apple. In many cases, this is not just a “cosmetic” issue but actually interfers with the function of the disc drive, for example.
Additionally, there is no reason for rude or condescending treatment by Apple Store employees and yet I hear of it all too often…….which suggests to me that Mr. Smith is perhaps one of them…..

Once local management (retail) became aware of the situation they resolved it–I suspect more from a “customer service” perspective than the machine defect.
But hey, I now have an unbent MBP hat appears to work; so that all I care about

I have the same thing, and i just got it suday (two days ago)… I looked it up and apparently there’s a website that has confirmation that this is probably a known problem.
http://forums.macosxhints.com/.....hp?t=57767
apparently there were 1,213 votes on that subject
It’s less likely to have lid “warp” on a macbook, and way more likely to occur on the 15″ macbook pro. There were 862 people who said that they have a 15″ macbook pro. Of the 862, a very surprising 93% claimed that their computer lid is “warped”
As for Mr. Smith’s comment… take a big shovel, ram it up your ass and run down the highway so random truckers can pick you up and have their way with you.

This is just speculation, but did Apple unintentionally design the case as a thermostat? Different materials have different coefficients of expansion, and if the assembly temperature (of the components) is different from the use or storage temperatures, there will be force encouraging warping unless the design relieves such stress.
