My Biggest Complaint About Bank Account Number X-Out’s On Deposit Receipts

My bank has switched to replacing all but the first digit and last four digits of my account number with “x” on my deposit receipts. This seems like an over zealous security plan gone wrong.

My biggest complaint about my bank x-ing out my account numbers on my deposit slips is pretty obvious, I can’t check to make sure the deposit has gone into the right account because I can’t read 8 of the 13 numbers for the account into which the money was to be deposited.

I suppose my bank is now asking me to rely on a verbal OK from the teller to assure me that the money has been deposited correctly. My bank has left me with no option but to ask the teller to look at their screen and tell me, “Yes, it went in the right account.”

Thanks, but I still can’t be sure unless I see the numbers on the ticket and I want them back.

I would hope the security measures the bank has in place don’t revolve around someone figuring out what my account number is anyway because my account number is really no secret. The account number is already on all of my checks.

  1. i suppose someone’s more inclined to try and access your account only after they know how much you’ve deposited into it. still it does seem like a false security measure. It’s like that little chain on the door. The intent is there, but the execution falls flat.
