• Newscasters With Laptops

Now my local news even has laptops for the anchor people. I first saw them pop up on CNN, mostly during election night return broadcasts, but now it’s an everyday thing.
Why? What can they possibly be looking at besides the teleprompter when reading me the news?
Answer: Nothing. It’s total show. Unless they have bad eyesight […]

• Google Sites From Google Apps

Google has released “Google Sites” which is apparently a way for people to get super crappy looking websites really fast. I have to give a bit of disclaimer here, this may be an amazing product… I don’t know, I haven’t tried it.
Why am I complaining about it without even trying it? That’s my biggest complaint […]

• Websites Without Contact Forms

You’ve obviously put a lot of time into your site. No, I’m not talking about that mega spam blog you’ve got running. I’m talking about the nice one with the nice look or interesting article, or hey, maybe even the one that’s worth advertising on.
So why in the hell don’t you have a way for […]

• “ASAP” On Support Forum Message Boards

“I have no idea how to [insert something here you could learn to do but are too lazy to google or research/learn otherwise]. I really need to know how to do this ASAP. Can someone please help? I would really appreciate it.”
I bet you damn well would appreciate it. I bet you liked it when […]

• “Skip Intro” And “Skip To Content”

It’s time to dump the tremendously long loading, beautifully presented, completely worthless website splash pages and intro pages.
My biggest complaint about “Skip Intro” and “Skip to Content” links on web pages is that there is no way for me to tell the developer “I just bailed out of your site because you must not have […]

• People Closing Windows Applications Constantly

There was a day when your piece of crap windows machine had trouble running more than one application at a time. That’s when people got used to closing out applications to keep their computers alive.
Now your piece of crap windows machine will run multiple applications nicely. But almost everyone here is still closing applications when […]

• Web Browsing At The Apple Store

I had a few extra minutes at lunch today and stumbled into the Apple Store to check out the new iPod Nano.
I hadn’t been there but a couple of minutes when I couldn’t help but notice several people logging into sites that required passwords like their MySpace accounts or Yahoo! Mail accounts. Most of the […]

• Black Background Web Pages

Don’t get me wrong, few things look as cool as really nice photos or graphical art against a web page with a black background. But throw in a long blog post or other article text and then you’re just killing me.
Seriously, I experience retinal pain when I come back to the real world of white […]

• People Who Don’t Use IMAP

The other day someone asked me to email them a file. I did. An hour later they asked me if I had sent them the file.
What happened to the email? They were checking their email from work and had accidentally left their home computer on. Their home computer was pulling emails automatically because the home […]

• Overtightened Computer Peripheral Cables

Besides everything else that I hate about fixing your computer…
My biggest complaint about overtightened computer peripheral cables is that I have to be the one to loosen them - for minutes at a time! Stop it.
Do you really need to tighten the screws on the video cables into the back of your computer in […]

• Hammer said:
Maybe they don't have as many servers as google and yahoo and want to cut down on traffic bandwidth by only using SSL on the username and password part of the page.
@Hammer, thanks for at least trying to answer my question and give a reason as to why the page is not secure, although the form may be. Apple has plenty of bandwith. Seriously, iTunes downloads? Full length movies? Secured login... I don't think there is a comparison. I'm guessing Apple isn't on shared hosting. So, does any one else have any other ideas as to why Apple would not make the entire page secure to prevent it from being phished?

• @Lyle, yes much more, and all of it, including 10GB of your most precious files all accessible from an insecure login page.

• Before you guys go any further with this, can tom, Mark or anyone else for that matter offer any sensible reason as to why gmail and yahoo have secure login pages and .mac accounts do not?

• PsychWard said:
When it was down I wanted it to be MEGA COPRP INC INTL, getting it sorted by use of a massive team of techies..
At least Skype acted like MEGA CORP by blaming the whole thing on Microsoft and Windows computers. That's the cool thing to do in the business tech world. Blame it all on Microsoft.

• Strangely enough, I once read a study about the most favorable colors for readability for backgrounds and text on web pages. That study concluded that a yellow background with green text was the best for your eyes. Go figure. Talk about seriously making me puke.

• @Droo, while your tips might work, I think trophywife's point is that you shouldn't have to do any of this stuff in iTunes. iPod's work intuitively - an album is an album. iTunes at least in the default setup, is very counterintuitive because it splits tracks and what is the point of that?

• @dw17, leaving the messages on the server is fine with me, but host who don't allow IMAP should be someone else's complaint!
