My Biggest Complaint About Apple’s “A Greener Apple” Announcement

I know what you’re thinking, how could I have a complaint about becoming more environmentally friendly? Many environmental groups have criticized Apple for being slack on their efforts to produce environmentally safe products so pretty much anything Apple can do to improve it’s environmental record should be good.

If you haven’t read the actual text of the Apple announcement by Steve Jobs, take a look at it.

I’m beginning to think Apple and Steve Jobs are incapable of taking responsibility for anything without blaming someone else or pointing out how great Apple is when it has failed. As a share holder, this bothers me. As a Mac user, this bothers me.

Apple is becoming that 5 year old kid nobody likes.

The recent announcement about going green is the latest in a long line of pseudo apologies from Apple.

In the “Greener Apple” announcement, Steve said

Upon investigating Apple’s current practices and progress towards these goals, I was surprised to learn . . .

How could the man in charge at Apple be “surprised to learn” anything about what’s going on at Apple, let alone the major basis of the complaint environmental groups have been bashing the company with for years?

Steve also said

It is generally not Apple’s policy to trumpet our plans for the future; we tend to talk about the things we have just accomplished.

You have got to be kidding me! Apple is all about trumpeting plans for the future. Apple is nothing but trumpeting plans for the future. Including plans, like OS X Leopard, that cannot be realized on time because of other highly trumpeted plans. I dare you Steve Jobs, DO NOT “TRUMPET” ONE PLAN FOR THE FUTURE AT WWDC 2008.

Steve Jobs and Apple, as a shareholder, this announcement makes me embarrassed and I have lost all confidence in you to tell the truth to consumers and other shareholders alike.
