My Biggest Complaint About Apple Store Inefficiency

Don’t consider the team efficient. They are useless fellows.

I ordered Mac book and a mighty mouse. I got them with separate invoices.

I requested apple to send me a combined invoice. They told me to wait for two days and I am waiting from 10 days.

  1. I was going to purchase two computers for my sons, both going off to college. I sent them to the nearest Apple store with my credit card, only to have them rejected due to not having the proper id for the credit card. Yet, my son came home and was able to purchase the same computer over the internet with the same credit card….I could get no one to answer the phone at the store! This is ridiculous!!!!

Yes, there appears to be a double standard, but I side with the Apple Store on this one. I think the Apple Store acted responsibly here. If somebody shows up to buy two computers, especially if they are college aged kids or just kids in general, on a credit card, then I want the store policy to be that they require proper ID, not just possession of my credit card.

How is the Apple Store employees to know if the kids were your sons, if they are truly authorized to by $4000 of computers with your cards, or if they are using a stolen credit card? I want stores to be vigilant about credit card protection. I bet you have an even bigger complaint if somebody charged 4000.00 to your credit card unknowlingly.

As for the fact that your sons can order on line, well that’s different. The online identity problem isn’t exclusive to Apple. All online businesses share it. That doesn’t mean the store shouldn’t use common sense when selling items to people who are trying to use other people’s credit cards.

Regardless, I hope you sons love their new computers. I certainly love mine. Send me your credit card in the mail and I may love mine even more. Yes, I will order on-line if your wondering :)

  3. i don’t know if it’s the same in the US but in Canada you have to sign for everything you buy with a credit card at a store to show that you bought it, and they are supposed to match your signature against your driver’s lisence so it can’t be forged. as for the whole online perchase, not much you can do about it online…. Hope your sons enjoy their notebooks, i love my iMac, and hopefully you’ll get that invoice soon

  4. retail stores have different rules than mail order warehouses when it comes to accepting credit cards. these rules result in different credit card merchant fees to the seller (retail is lower than mail order due to lower risk of chargeback). quit complaining about apple trying to protect you from identity theft.

  5. Are you insane? Ridiculously protecting you and your financial stability? Upset that a store would not allow someone (anyone!) to buy something without proper id? You should be kissing their feet! Recently, I discovered that my brother stole $100,000 from my mother by improper credit card use (hence me finding this site). She is going to have to declare bankrupcy because so many do not follow this “ridiculous” practice. Need I say more?

  6. The contracts merchants sign with Visa and Master Card actually do not allow a merchant to require ID to use a visa or master card. Report your incident to your credit card issuer.

This is actually for your own protection. If you credit card # is fraudulently used you are not liable (unless you are using a debit card, but that is your problem, not mine). If someone takes your information from your license (address, license #, date of birth) much more damage can be done. THAT is identity theft. Fraudulent credit card usage is not identity theft.

    i agree with mistercoffee here.

in the eyes of the employee they didn’t know if those kids were your children or had your authorization. for all they knew you could be wandering around the house trying to find your wallet.
