I just walked into a co-worker’s cubicle and heard the faint sound of Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You”. Good song. I started humming it. Looked around, made sure nobody was looking, and even started a little dancing.
Then I thought, “WTF? These are good songs and I can’t enjoy them anymore.”
I can’t. I just keep thinking of the absolute weirdness that followed.
My biggest complaint about it is the older the Michael Jackson song is, the worse it gets. If I’m listening to something from when he was a little kid, that’s just really eff’ed up. For 10 seconds I’m dancing to “ABC” and then I start feeling all depressed and think about what a complete wreck of a childhood it all was.
Hearing something more recent is no problem because besides the fact it’s just crap, the end result of the weirdness is not as tragic as the downward spiral of weirdness that occurred along the way.

Thriller is still one of the greatest albums made, even if prisoners seem to be the only ones dancing to it now.
Also my friends and I have noted that the new Nine Inch Nails song “Capital G” sounds an awful lot like “Leave Me Alone.”
