My Biggest Complaint About Airtran Oversized Baggage Fee

My bag was said to be oversized. I have traveled with my bag about 20 times this year and never had a problem. When I got to the counter at Atlanta the customer service rep (agent #200567) asked me if I wanted to upgrade to first class for 50 dollars. I said no my company would kill me if I paid for a 50 dollar upgrade on a 1 hour flight. He proceeded to try and sell me an upgrade saying that it is not just an hour flight from Atl to Orlando but you sit on the plane for 45 minutes before and after. I said no thank you then he said well you get a free bag when you fly business class and he could make the receipt look like it was a baggage charge so my company would not know. I said no thank you I will be fine with paying my 15 dollar bag fee and sitting in the back of the plane. He said fine and then said that will be $54. I said no sir I said I do not want to fly business class. He said no the fee is because your bag is oversized. I told him I have never had a problem before and could he remeasure the bag. I had 3 people measure the bag. All three got different measurements. The final measurement was that my bag was a 1/4 inch over sized. I was told to pay it or my bag was not getting on the flight. I was forced to pay it because I had to get on my flight. I called customer service from the airport and asked if my bags could be measured again when I got to Orlando. I told them that Airtran took my bag and I have not touched or seen my bag since I was at the counter. I just want someone to take my bag off the plane and measure it. Airtran said they could not do it. They told me they don’t have anybody certified to do it. When I flew home from Orlando I asked them to measure my bag because they only charged me the normal $15 fee. My bag measured at only 59 inches. I had more things in the bag and the bag weighed about 5 pounds heavier. There is no way for an exact measurement of a bag. So it is open to interpetation. Are the Airtran agents certified to measure a bag. They can start the measurement were they want and adjust the numbers to make the bag over 62 inches. This is a huge scam and their should be some way to form a class action suit against Airtran by all the travelers who have been ripped off. I am so mad still 2 weeks later. My bags cost me more than the flight from Atl to Orlando.
